>and they frankly dont care about them.That sounds silly but i believe it, if Nikon made a D880 with all the Z7 II insides plus software AND pixel shift/sensor plane for geometric correction then yeah, i don't think most old Nikon shooters would buy another camera for a decade.
But they haven't done it, i think because they want them to move into mirrorless ASAP, Nikon never made their definitive DSLR and that's how Pentax stays afloat, for a really serious photography-only hobbyist the K1 is still unmatched and while few there's still some new blood out there looking at DSLRs like hipsters look at film.
Will they stay alive only with this small fry/quick change userbase? in my opinion that's why they shaved their camera offerings, i don't think they will unless they become an even smaller company selling good niche stuff (DSLRs in the future) like Leica does with rangefinders but without Leica prices. Ricoh/Cosina glass is pretty good and some of the only options for a weather sealed lens system.
