Even if that were true (it's usually not), the detail would be locked up in the film and very hard to make use of unless you have a giant and very sharp enlarger.
Source: Shot Vision3 50 iso film. Looks very similar to 250 when scanned with my mirrorless.

Sharpness is always going to be relative to the technology available at the time.
Medium format digital with a great lens is as sharp as gear gets at the moment, so to get the "ultra sharp" label, this implies you are using the best available.

I suppose that is a good point that what counts as “ultra sharp” is just whatever the sharpest thing on the market currently is. Ten years ago, my 2015 24mp fool frame camera would have been a marvel, but today it's outclassed.

It is frankly surprising how good it is. I guess to get the macro range they had to avoid a tele design (or even go retrofocus) so no concerns about illumination angle on digital.
All in spite of the little-square-of-post-it shim keeping the adapter from rattling. Are there any decent Adaptall-E adapters? I could get a decent FD/F/etc adapter and use one of the native Adaptall adapters, but it seems like stacking two adapters would end up with just as much slop anyway.

Oh, you must be new here. Canon is largely known by the vast majority of the photography community to have the best sensors and lenses. Sony is a good second, but will always pale in comparison to Canon in those departments. Happy to have helped you :)

Counter point. Sharpness only stopped being an issue when wartime photo journalists needed something small and lightweight for use in the field; which created romanticism around Leica and the 35mm format.

Before that much larger cameras were used, as they were higher quality images.

It's become an issue again thanks to magazines and review sites taking on F64's rule of essentially regulating the manufacturing of lenses. I've long held that the reason here are no true pancake lenses anymore is because there is now a tacit minimum quota for lens element count

You can only have a pancake if it's close to the flange distance, which is why You're not going to see them on mirrorless much. Also, incidence angle from the rear of the lens doesn't work well on digital, so you need a correction element.

Nothing to do with sharpness chasing, everything to do with basic optics. Sonys new compact g series lenses are very small though, and Samsung do a few very compact f2.8 lenses for FE mount too.

Sharpness has much more to do with the quality of glass, and precision of manufacture,and this has all been made MUCH easier in the last 20 years thanks to automated CNC manufacturing coming a long way and CAD for lenses being much more powerful and accessible.

Technically you could have a telephoto wide (e.g. the Olympus XA's 35mm lens that's about 10mm from the film plane to front element) but not on any CMOS or CCD sensor due to the acceptance angle issue. You could in theory do it with a fixed-lens camera (manufacture a brand new microlens sensor covering with anisotropic acceptance matched to the lens exit angle) but nobody is dumb enough to spend the R&D and manufacturing line startup megabucks for such a niche product.

Fast prime is fast: did a bit of testing with adapters. There appear to be two different models of Adaptall-NEX adapter available: My initial one (unbranded, but identical to the K&F concept one, 'broad knurl' design) has a decent amount of wiggle at the Adaptall end. The Fotodiox Adaptall-NEX ('tight knurl') has no perceptible play. Stacking an M42-NEX and Adaptall M42 also works great without any play (hard to fuck up a thread in a fay that can't be un-fucked by tightening it). No testing for flange focal length accuracy, but all work at infinite focus so at worst you may be giving up a teens amount of close focus distance. No testing for planarity or parallelism either, not bored enough to bother yet.

Things will never not be blurry at 100% looking at bare pixels, if they are interpolated up from a Bayer array, or worse, that other array that has even more green pixels on average.

If you were only interested in light and dark, and not different hues of green, then maybe. If you were interested in accurate colour reproduction, not only in green but across the spectrum too, then you'd want an even distribution of rgb.

Bayer and xtrans favour green as it's the lightest and has the highest transmission, thus marginally improving low light performance.

Bayer patterns favour green because they are designed for reproducing images for human eyes, which are most sensitive to green contrast. This is because all three cone cell variants can perceive green light, whereas red light will not be picked up strongly by blue-sensitive cone cells and vice versa. Red cells are also have their sensitivity in the blue-green region.
Combined with the practical need for tristimulus colour reproduction (as opposed to trying to produce a full continuous spectrum for every pixel) and it makes the most sense to put the most effort into green channel capture and reproduction. Knowledge of this effect predates colour TV, let alone CCDs, CMOS, and Bayer filters.

Use of separate Luminance and Chrominance signals for colour recording and transmission predates Bayer, and indeed predates NTSC or PAL TV (it was invented back when flying-spot scanning was a viable alternative to photosensitive tubes).
