Modern cameras handle high ISO well enough I might just as well leave the bulky boy at home

I understand your point though, they make you look like a jackass. I will never understand boomers who use them for every shot even when their shutter speed is like 1/1000

one day I'll buy a decent ff camera. Right now I'm more interested in wasting my money on other stuff.

I don't know. I took the Rockwell/Popsys pill and threw away my tripod and got an IS lens instead, but now I'm thinking I should buy a good quality tripod after all.

Not just for avoiding motion blur in long exposures, I want to use it just so I don't have to think about composition, focus and exposure at the same time, but instead sequentially. Any suggestions? I want a light one that I can carry on long hikes, and without a center post, so I can get low to the ground. Probably needs to support at most 1.7 kg centered on the head.

Some shots can only be made using a tripod (smooth water, astro, light painting, etc) but in general I agree. Cameras from the last five years have really excellent higher ISO performance making some tripod use kind of unnecessary.

I'm quite enjoying the Peak Design tripod. Not the 'best' at anything, but it's tiny so I rarely begrudge it taking up room in/on a bag. Not an option if you MUST have a dedicated panning function, but the stock ball head works as well as any other compact ball head otherwise.

Most people don't need 'em.

I will say this though: If you're into landscapes, macro photography of things that are not moving, or even portraiture; I highly suggest you take two shots in brilliant light and a high shutter speed. One of the shot take freehand as you normally would, the other turn off all stabilization and use a tripod with delayed shutter. You may be shocked, for me it's like going from a 30mp camera to a 45.

Use silent shutter for free hand. You will be surprised.

Are those anal beads-looking tripods good enough for landscape and dim lighting?

I don't plan to get anything printed for Nat Geo or anything, I'm just using a hands me down F100 with some free film I got but most of it is ISO 400 at best.
I just don't wanna carry a huge ass $1000 tripod for film snapshits but I wanna know if the beads are enough to use slightly slower shutter speeds because most of my shots have been a bit underexposed lately.

where the hell do I get a good solid tripod? I've got a tripod but it's rickety and the screw mount doesn't even fit on most of my cameras. I've looked in thrift stores as well and they always have really weak flimsy tripods.

What's a good model I can look for?

are you asking for a sturdy model or a cheap one. You cannot have both.

Try Manfrotto. I have a 190 CX Pro 4 and it's sturdy as hell as well as lightweight. but you can find some cheaper options too.
Also look for used at B&H photo. I'm immediately finding really nice used tripods with heads in the abouts $150 range from Manfrotto and Sirui

If you're buying used you just need to do your own research - cameras are complicated pieces of engineering, tripods just hold them. It's not complicated.

I'm not really looking for top of the line sturdy stuff but the one I have is just really crappy, it'll twist and flex with hardly and force at all. Of course, I understand it'll cost me.

I've heard Manfrotto is good, and I didn't know B&H sold used, actually. I could afford $150 if I wanted to, but I'm curious, would I be able to get something decently sturdy for less than this?

I plan to buy used, nearly everything I buy in general is used. I'm going to do some research but what are some other manufacturers I ought to be on the look out for?

mainly a lot of the cheaper ones fail where the telescoping leg clasps are.
Nothing is worse than having a leg clasp be loose or fail and your whole rig topples over. Tripods aren't something you should cheap out on. Buy a nice one you'll have for life.
