I've recently bought an SP1000 which had a pretty bad case of battery corrosion on the bottom plate...
I've replaced the whole bottom plate since I had a spare one lying around, cleaned the contacts, and put a fresh Panasonic PR-312 1.4V zinc-air battery inside.
When the settings are ISO 100 and B on the shutter dial, the meter needle drops down, so I guess that's fine, but on any other setting, the needle flies up indicating overexposure and stays there, no matter what I do with the shutter speed or aperture.
Maybe the corrosion penetrated some of the wiring, but I don't think so since the needle drops at the beginning indicating expected behavior, so could the metering cells be dead? I have a spare pair of those too, would it make sense to replace them?
I'm also getting some Energizer 387S cells which are supposedly the best replacement available currently, should I try those first? I did try with all sorts of cells and the results were always the same, I even modded another spare bottom plate to take LR44 cells by popping out the plastic tray, but no luck there either.
I love the camera and I don't mind using it with my external meter or Sunny 16, but I also got some extension tubes and TTL metering would be really nice for shooting macro stuff, so I'd love to fix it.
