How do I trick my brain into not caring about the looks of my camera body? I got the x-s10 and it's technically the best fuji camera I own. The new film simulations are beautiful. And I love shooting handheld video with the IBIS. And the grip is nice. But because the camera doesn't have the rangefinder look like x-pro and x-e cameras, I'm thinking about returning it. When picking up my x-pro1 it "feels"/looks so much better, which is stupid af because ergonomically the x-s10 feels nicer, and still I prefer holding the x-pro1. Help.

I got paid and will buy a new lens tomorrow. Still can't make my mind about Fuji XF35mm f/2, Viltrox 56mm f/1.4 or Viltrox 33mm f/1.4. All go for around the same price locally.
XF33mm f/1.4 is way above my budget I'm afraid. Already have 18-55mm f/2.8-4 on my X-T20.

Found an XF35mm f/1.4 for about $310, lacks its box and warranty though. Brand new XF35 f2 goes for about $380 here.
For reference, new 35mm 1.4 for $560 and 33mm 1.4 for $760. I guess the XF33mm is spectacular but it is just way too much money for me.

Really not liking MF on the X-E2 with peaking. It’s like the peaking is too sensitive so I can’t be sure unless I magnify. My Sonys have had more reliable peaking. Might give the split focus a shot for a while

I've seen you say this in a few places, why does a few mm matter so much to you? The only thing I can think of is if you've mainly shot 50mm for years and the slightly different fl is enough to trip you out every time you look at your photos, but even that would go away with time.

Is the new XF 33mm f/1.4 really any less magical than the old 35mm f/1.4?

They're both obviously good lenses. If there's any difference in magic between the two I'm pretty sure it comes from the photographer, not the lens. I'm thinking of getting the newer just for the weather sealing.

I know Viltrox lenses aren't as good as Fuji ones but those prices are really attractive not gonna lie.
Dissuade me from getting the 56/1.4 for $330 when Fuji's 50/2 costs 450, 56/1.2 $900 and 50/1 costs $1500. How bad could it be?

honestly unsure between the xf18mm/f2 and the 27mm/f2.8 wr? I think if I got a 35 I would go for the f1.4, I don't know any good non fuji lenses with this mount but it would be nice to not have to use an adapter or use the default TC that fuji makes, I don't care too much for AF but there are Samyang lenses which support it. is the XF200mm OIS not amazing/magic? The X-T200 doesn't have the Xtrans sensor, instead having a boring old bayer CMOS sensor. Fuji nerds don't want anything that isn't Xtrans.
The X-T2, X-T20 and X-E3 all have the same sensor (Xtrans 3) and photographic capabilities, I'd say buy whichever one is the cheapest, if image quality is the priority. If it isn't, pick the one with the features you want.

IMO the previous generation Xtrans2 cameras render an image that's more to my liking. Check them out too, X-T1, X-T10, X-E2 and X-E2s are all still great.

The value equation shifts when you realize viltrox's are both harder to sell AND don't keep their value as well as Fuji lenses. If you treat your gear well, you could buy a used 35 f2 and sell it 2 years later for what you paid. I would always go with the Fuji option, unless you're looking at something special like the 18-300 tamron or the Laowa macro lens that was being talked about in the last thread.

I just don't know what to do with all these options. I kinda agree with >>3958711 as the Fuji lenses seem to retain their value real good, especially the older ones.
Found a listing for 50mm/f2 for about $240, with its box and warranty. I like my 18-55 but borrowing my cousin's 35mm/f2 rather spoiled me for the sharpness and low light performance with its wider aperture is rather obvious.

a thing about bokeh, its not just about the f stop. there are tons of lenses, vintage ones too that give amazing bokeh at 2 or 2.8, it's about the lighting too

Idk, never had viltrox 56, but fuji 50 f2 is near flawless performer. Not so long ago it was sharpest lens on a system. Already great at f2, and even better f2.8. 0 problems with CA, coma or distortion. You combine it with very small size, great build quality and weather sealing and it is lens that's hard to put down.

too many to name here, lots of zeiss, meyer-optik, nikkor. depends on your budget too. some good cheap ish ones are super takumar 50mm/1.4 and 55mm/1.8, nikkor 50mm 1.8 pancake, canon fd ssc lenses, zeiss biotar 58mm/2, etc. almost never get a wide/super wide vintage lens, most are terrible. lots of 55mm and 58mm are magical. the rabbit hole goes deep

Ive come into an xpro after shooting film rangefinders for years. I stopped trying to make the OVF work for me. The EVF with peaking is the best way to shoot the camera imo.

Mostly for the body shape/size and controls, for me. The jpeg output of the X-E2 is nothing special without Fuji lenses, and “color science” sounds like “blast processing.”

A few weeks ago I bought a second hand X-T2 for a really great price, I'm in love with it so far.
Thanks to the 27mm pancake I can carry it in my backpack at all times for daily street photography. The 50mm f2 is great for portraits. I also have an adapted EF mount Samyang 135mm f2 from my previous astrophotography kit.

I am thinking of selling the Samyang 135 and buying the Fuji 18-135 (450€) as a versatile lens for "general nature photography" (landscape is too big a word for what I do).
Buying the 50-230 and a wide angle prime would probably offer a better value but after some recent outings I have developed an appreciation for the idea of not having to swap lenses.

It was just the first photo while scrolling through my phone that I knew was shot with the lens. That image was taken at 1/30 and F2, so no probably not all that sharp.

It's soft at f1.0 and only starts getting sharp around f 2.8 but that's expected. It captures all the detail just fine wide open so upping the contrast during editing can counter it.

It's REALLY large and heavy. Def not a travel or street kinda lens.

It's still amazing for portraits and low light stuff.

Yeah the bokeh is really smooth.

The AF is hit and miss. For the amount of glass being moved, it isn't bad. Eye detect works well enough. Hell, it picked up the toy robot's eyes flawlessly so I can't complain.

I know the focusing motor on the 50 f1.0 is newer than the one in the 56 f1.2, though it still isn't a linear motor. I'd still say the AF is good considering this lens is a monster. Maybe not good enough for anything fast like sports, street or wildlife but amazing for static subjects.

I paid over 2000 canuck bucks for it but that's because I bought it brand new.

Honestly if you just need a versatile all rounder 50mm lens, get the F2. It's amazing for its value and will do adequately for everything. The F1.0 is niche af, which you can interpret as bad or not worth it. I'm liking mine so far. I'm sure buyer's remorse will hit me at some point but I'm gonna enjoy the lens until then.

If you’re using off camera lighting some wireless triggers block the shutter/ISO dial which sucks and makes me think it was designed for Le epic street photographers rather than more conventional working pro/semi pro types. I really like my xpro2 but it’s a meme camera in some ways. An XT2 with battery grip or XH1 might be a better idea if you definitely want to get a fuji with that sensor generation.

I ended up going with the 35mm f/1.4

Here's a quick shot, didn't have time to set up a nice background. The longitudinal chromatic aberration is more noticeable on the whiskers than I had hoped. But I think I can live with it if I remind myself not to pixel peep. Other than that I really like the look.

Shame about the lack of WR, but I didn't see myself using this particular lens much in bad weather anyway, so I think I can live with that too.

Just get the good old 18-55, or the much more expensive 16-55 though it's pretty big to carry around. I find my 18-55 really handy when going around and while portraits etc. aren't as sharp as my 35/f1.4, it's extremely versatile.

Too big of a hit on image quality, then?

I looked through my pictures from before I switched to Fuji, filtered on focal lengths greater than 196mm, and there weren't many that were all that important to me. Some birds and other wildlife, but I don't really have the patience to take wildlife photography seriously. There are some landscapes as well, but most of them would have benefited from both being wider, and from having the kind of image quality you get with the 50-140mm. The same can honestly also be said for stuff I've shot between 140mm and 196mm. I always wanted more reach, but did much better work at the short telephoto end.

Also some of my favorite photos are landscape and architecture between 50 and 55mm. I didn't have anything between the kit 18-55mm and a 70-300mm, but I think I think that would have come in handy.

Seems like a pretty strong case for the 50-140mm, and when bundled with the 1.4x TC (or skipping the TC) it brings the price down to less than the 56mm + 70-300mm combo.

Why does my X-E2's sensor do this with rock formations? This is with the 7artisans 35/1.2 at f/5.6-f/8, but it did something similar with the 7a 35/1.4. JPEG, no post-sharpening. Sharpness and NR at 0 in in-camera settings. Sharpening the jpeg in LR brings out the wormjis.

OK, this is known as the “watercolor” issue. It seems using Photo | Enhance in LR helps a lot with this. It’s not perfect, but it’s good enough that I don’t feel like selling the camera anymore.

I'm no prime snob, but sometimes it's nice to not have the big honker on the front of the camera, particularly for travel and blending into crowds.

I have a 35mm f1.4 but need something wider to go with it. Would you go with the 23mm f2 or the 18mm f2? I have a lot of travel photography shot at both of those focal lengths with a zoom, so either would be used extensively.

The 18mm is nice for this use case because it's a pancake. But the 23mm is weather sealed, which comes in handy when visiting rainy places. On the other hand you can crop a picture taken with the 18mm to 23mm, but you can't reverse it from 23mm to 18mm.

Another pancake is the 27mm f2.8 which is weather sealed, but it feels awfully close to 35mm, so it doesn't bring that much else to the table.

There is a big difference between 18mm and 23mm focal length, but both are easy to compose with. 18mm is the typical smartphone view but it's also a very old lens and from what I read it's slowish and noisy. The 23mm is newer, very fast and quiet.. plus WR. I wish they would bring a second gen of the 18mm F2 with WR and fast AF. Would be an instant buy for me.

Do you keep your 35mm? If not then I would go with the 23mm. If you keep it give the 18mm a try.. maybe buy used and sell again if you don't get warm with it.

If you want wider but with WR, fast and quiet.. then maybe the 16mm f2.8 would be an option too. But 16mm is another story.. way more difficult to compose

How many Fuji X lenses do you own?
I'm planning my next purchases trying to keep that number as small as possible. I want to shoot landscape and some portraits.

- a walkaround lens (either 18mm or 27mm)
- a portrait lens (50mm f2)
- a telephoto zoom (50-230)
- a wide angle lens for landscape - but which one? The 10-24 seems like the obvious choice but maybe a 12mm prime alone would be sufficient, leaving more money in my pocket to travel to nice locations.

I think you mean to have everything in focus (which means no bokeh) rather than completely sharp (sharp images refer to how 'clear' it is to see detail). Look up hyperfocal distances calculators. Essentially you want as much of what you are photographing to be as similar distance to the camera as possible, while being stupid something like f5. 6 or f8 (f11 introduces diffraction and will lower the sharpness a little, but you can use it). Like, if you are taking a photo of a wall, it's flat and will be the same distance to the camera so nothing will be out of focus. That's different if you were in a forest, where the ground can be 1m from your camera, and trees will be at lots of different distances so some parts will be out of focus

What I did was pickup the x-e2s cheaply second hand and. Xf27mmf2.8 (pancake) for a pocketable setup. That way you can use it with any of your x mount lenses if you ever want to take a second body for a shoot. The x70 looks awesome too.

However, in this situation you should just take your xt20 with the kit lens. Get a sling bag or something and take it.

X70 looks comfy because you can really just put it in a pocket.
I usually take the xt20 + 18-55 in a little bag when I go on holidays or events, but these days Im just studying a lot at the library and my backpack is already heavy so Ive been thinking more of the pancake that I can just put in my jacket.
Anyway is 200 euros fine for a second hand 1st gen xf27 f2.8? That's the price around my area

I feel like I have to try harder when I use the xt4. It's more suited to professional shooting, whereas the x100v feels much more casual, which is really good for street and candid stuff.

Is it possible to draw your finger on the LCD screen with a Fuji camera while looking in the EVF in order to choose the place you want to focus?

I usually edit with rawtherapee, and then gimp if I need to remove ugly shit like cables etc.
But I'm thinking of trying lightroom now, I've been going the poorfag way for too long with free software and old nikon dslr with kit lens.

so I recently got an Xpro 3 because I wanted to see what the memes about Wormji and hipsterish faux rangefinder are.
I usually shoot Nikon.
So the Xpro is a nice little snapshit cam with horrible autofocus and terrible menus. But I enjoy it.
Buuuut ... what the fuck is up with the EVF? It's like I'm looing at some 2008 bridge camera with an EVF. It's terrible. The high contrast makes gets to me the most. When I dial in some faggy film simulation and look through the EVF the resulting image looks nothing like the shit I'm seeing in the EVF. The back LCD on the other hand is pretty good and the resulting photo and the exposure preview on the LCD pretty much match.
So is the EVF simply trash on the X-series flagship camera? Or am I doing something wrong (yeah, I enabled Boost, etc and when I turn on Natural View Find the EVF isn't that bad but when I keep the exposure/effect preview it's pretty shit).
My Nikon Z7II while having nominally the same number of dots in the EVF is waaaaaay better - even with exposure/effect preview.
Fuck Fuji tbhs. It's a joke. Because I'm still forced to shoot in RAW due to the lacking preview. And I wanted to use the Xpro as my snapshit JPG only cam.
I guess I'm going to send it back and get some smallish lens for my Z7.
Fuck wormji (haven't seen any worms in Lightroom btw)

I've been very happy with mine though, I don't use the EVF often but it looks fine, more than that even to my eyes, especially after adjusting the luminosity and other options

The main draws to the X100V are the smaller size (including the pancake lens) and the OVF/EVF.

I bought a second hand MCEX-16 extension ring and there is a lot of resistance when mounting lenses. Larger ones like the 10-24 are OK, but the 27mm takes a lot of force, more than is usually required to screw on a lens. The 50mm f2 as well. Is this normal/acceptable? Perhaps, but it won't drive down the price of the lenses. Also a big reason why I went with the X system is that I wanted a really wide lens, and there is none for G. Although it occurred to me that I could have got something like the Sigma 12-24mm for EF mount and an adapter, and just zoomed in until the image circle covered the whole sensor. It would have given me the same FOV anyway.

But the main reason is that it's only a hobby for me, so even full frame, let alone medium format, seems like overkill. So I'm likely to stick with the X system for the foreseeable future.

Loving my X-T2 after many years, but it's not the type of thing I use on the street.

I am torn between doing one of these two things:
1) Selling my X-T2 and buying an X-Pro3
2) Keeping the X-T2 and adding an X100V

The cost between these is about the same, I guess.

The size difference between the X100V and the X-Pro3 with the 27mm pancake isn't significant. They both have the OVF that I want, and have a dillhole flip screen for shooting from the hip.

for my x-pro3 i want a manual lens that is physically small that i can zone focus with. probably between 23-35mm (35-50mm equivalent).

id probably be using it between f/5.6 and f/16 the whole time, so it doesn't need to be fast.

i see a bunch of cheap $100-range shit on b&h but i dunno. i wish they made something like the nokton classic 35mm with a fuji mount. the 1.2 that they make is a little big.

If you want manual glass, you should buy M mount lenses and use an adaptor, it's small and you can adapt them to any mirrorless system easily

Voigtlander makes a few 35, the fuji 35 1.4 (or F2) isn't really big either, and it can autofocus

the two and three digit model numbers are the watered down "consumer level" versions which replace the manual controls with pictures of frogs and clouds. get a flagship model one or two generations back, like the X-T2 or the X-Pro2

paper is retarded. those are completely different camreas.

the x-t20 is a dslr-style thing with a flippy screen and a mode dial (for idiots basically) instead of an iso dial.

the x-pro1 is a rangefinder-style thing with an ovf/evf that is on the left side of the body so you don't have to mash your face on it to look through it. it's the first generation of the x-pro lineup and its a really good value. if you like this format (it is superior) and need more pixels (you really don't) you can check out the x-pro2, which is another one of the best cameras ever made. HOWEVER: the x-pro1 has the first generation x-trans1 sensor which has something of a cult following because it renders shit in a film-like way or something. as a film shooter im not sure id say it looks like film but id say it looks really good. i have an X-E1 which has the same thing going on.

You're right - the X-T20 is a technically superior camera on paper, and if you care about video more than a normal hobbyist, or if you see yourself doing anything with photography that would benefit from more megapixels, pick the X-T20.
Ergonomically, the X-Pro1 may have a more preferable body style, and I subjectively feel that it makes me want to go out and take pictures more. It's relatively discrete despite not really being that small, and the lack of a camera bump has an undeniable effect on your own self-perception of conspicuousness, whether one realizes it or not.
I'm not one of those aforementioned X-Pro1 cultists who believe that there's some film-like magic in the X-Trans I sensor, but I do think that the 16 MP is plenty fine, and handles ISO in a very pleasant way up to 3200.
I say all of this as someone who used the X-Pro1 for about seven years, and who has recently moved on to the X-Pro2 in July due to video interests.

I'm so conflicted about which lens(es) to bring with me for my trip around the world next year. I have just about every good x series lens so the analysis paralysis is real. I wish I could just take one or two lenses... here's what I've narrowed it down to.

X-T4
fuji 16mm f/1.4
fuji 33mm f/1.4
laowa 9mm f/2.8
fuji 70-300mm f/4-5.6

I also want to bring the 90mm f/2 and the 10-24mm f/4 and the 16-55mm f/2.8 but any of them would be pushing it weight-wise, since I'm also bringing a Pentax k1000 and 40 rolls of film. I have considered bringing ONLY the 16-55mm f/2.8.

Keep in mind I'll also have a GR IIIx on me so I don't need a "walk around" size lens.

My style is streetish urban landscape travel amateur.

I have an X-Pro3 but I think the X-T4 is probably better since I may want to take some video.

i travel everywhere with the fujinon 35mm f/2 r wr. the 33m f/1.4 looks nice as well. 9mm/16mm are too freakin' wide for me. zoom lenses are huge.

spent a few hours with it on the street and the OVF workflow is great. definitely worth it. i had the lens on f/8, auto everything else, and was able to frame and snap shots very quickly and discreetly.

giving this a 9/10 experience because i still wish it was a full frame rangefinder for fuck's sake
