Hi, I've been taking photos longer than a lot of you have been alive, and this board has gone to shit in the fifteen or so years that I've been here. So I'm here to help steer some of you idiots in the right direction and onto the glorious path. I would like for all of you to commit to a modicum of self-examination while I lay out a few bullet points that, if applicable to you, means that you should either find a new hobby or check yourself before you wreck yourself. Here goes!
>you shoot film thinking that it makes you "more careful"
>you have any brand loyalty whatsoever
>you think isi is a good photographer
>you think you're a good photographer
>you hang your own photos in your house
>you aren't close friends with 6-10 other photographers in real life
>you can't develop a roll of black and white without checking the instructions
>you want to make money with your photography
>you make money with your photography
>your aesthetic hasn't made any major shifts in the last three to five years
>you can't explain your work to a layperson in a compelling way without resorting to cryptic double talk
>you can't point to the dominant line in any of your photographs
>your photos are two dimensional
>you edit your photos in a bold, eye-catching manner
>you edit your photos in a demure, laid back, low contrast desaturated manner
>you don't shoot black and white
>you can't meter by eye
>you only shoot "one shot per motive"
>you spend time thinking about gear
>your photography shoes aren't one of the most expensive pieces of your kit
>you shoot 50 photos and think five are good
>you shoot less than 10,000 photos a year
>you don't compose portraits with the silhouette first
>you think commercial photography is "professional"
>you leave your camera at home
>you don't plan your days off around shooting photos
>you fit your cameras into your budget
>you think reddit has bad photographers and 4chan is some secret bastion of talent and skill
Stay up, homies.
