>>3959793>Average salaryThat's about a quarter of my annual salary for my office job at a fairly large firm. Oh, and that's before taxes.
My salary is about average for where I live, and I live in Western Europe.
For me, the expense limit for a brand new camera body would probably be something like a Panasonic S5, Sigma fp or Nikon Z6.
For lenses? Forget about most of them - I can really only reasonably afford Micro Four Thirds specialist lenses. If I went Full Frame, then I'd really only be getting prime lenses - most zooms and telephoto lenses would be outside my budget.
When normies ask me how much a camera is, they look at me weird and recoil at the price. They expect an ILC to cost €300 and lenses to be half that. Of course, they'll never question a €600 smartphone, but that can usually be justified as a necessity, since it's a phone, camera and computer in one thing.
The concept of a camera like the Fujifilm GFX 100 costing the amount it does seems like pure insanity, and overindulgence to most people. No one cares about its resolution or its depth of field - to them, it and their smartphone take "the exact same photos". That's just how normies are.
