do any anons own this lens? would you recommend it for light travel on a full frame Z body? i want something compact and kinda just want to leave my 50mm behind for a pancake lens

i'd get something wider but ofc it's a good lens
in 2021 probably there isn't a single bad normal lens tbqh
it's been over a century of sophistication of double gauss and coatings

Looking at samples it pretty shitty, but that's not the biggest problem.

It's plastic mount lens that sells for $299... Avoid, and spend the cash on three 7artisans instead.

Nice one retard, lens is very basic with pretty bad CA but not bad at all in terms of sharpness or color rendition.
Behaves very similar to the Voigtlander 40mm f2, nervous bokeh at times included, except it's made of plastic and has AF. For 300 that sounds decent.

i thought a few of those were good though none had been of my interest tbqd

let's not forget that double gauss achieves way higher apertures cheaply, and i guess that is a great selling point

I picked first f2 shot that I could find. And it's lousy as hell. Even when you get to f2.8 is still lousy. It's a plastic mount f4 lens for $300... You get all metal f1.4 lenses for that money.

yes i agree, tho that it's very different game from double gauss
in fact tessar and sonnar (and distagon for that matter) came later into play, and kinda lost its place somewhere in the 60s and 70s; probably the fact that it had patents probably had something to do with it, i would bet

anyway they don't quite work with mirror cameras and optical tech made its advantages obsolete (in contrast to earlier double gauss, which were very difficult to manufacture)
thankfully manufacturers are now able to double gauss any not-specialty fixed lens lol

Plastic mount, many problems.

Plastic is inviting dust and weather elements into camera just by using it. Worse, by mounting lens on and on against metal mount, plastic brushes off with time and leaves plastic residue on the mount, and sheding plastic into the camera body. And it eventally gets into other lenses as well. Expect to have plastic on the sensor, and even plastic on other lenses.

Stay far away from plastic mount leses. Trust me on this one.

I dropped a 7d with the plastic fantastic 50 1.8 and the helicoid broke, not the mount.

the mount wears faster so you get less lens changes. do some soincoknon cameras come with plastic mounts too? unironically probably better if you have plastic lenses
