Can we have a conversation about photography with words? Some topics:

-when out to take photos, do you keep the same lens on your camera or constantly changing depending on photo you want to take

I only have a kit lens and a 50mm prime. I really only shoot with the prime.

If I see something that looks good I take a photo. Sometimes I'll come back if I didn't get it right or think it would look good in different lighting. I don't want to overthink things.

I genuinely take photos for myself. It's a way for me to get out of the house and get some exercise. I'm an artist of other mediums and I developed a fear of getting anything done because I cared too much about what other people think. Photography is a good way to be creative while I deal with that.

Not constantly. I use lenses appropriate for the shot I want sometimes that means changing but not always.

I plan what I am doing and usually have a good idea of what I am looking for. I do take into account the weather and the time of day but I don't "camp out."

Not WHO do I have in mind! Usually a story or some other project is in mind. I decide where it might best be published when it is complete or almost complete.

One lens for the day unless I am taking a day trip. Then I might have a wide angle prime to supplement a 50 or 85mm.

cars I want wide, 35mm at the longest. portraits i use any focal length, depends on the image and the person. street stuff 35-85mm. architecture 35-50

myself, my friends on different private chats who also take pics, my different social media, my client if i have one at the time.

I use a lens at random and use it as a constraint when shooting. The best creative decisions always come from technical constraints.

If you only have a 85mm prime, all other things being equal, you will probably have more thoughtful framing than if you had a 20-200 or something.

That said, if I'm on vacation I bring an ultra wide and a medium telephoto since I want to capture specific things I can only see once

Just read 'The Ongoing Moment' by Geoff Dyer, shutterbugs. That book contains just about all of the visual philosophy that any photographer will ever need.

Ill generally have the one lens, only time ill carry more is if I know ill need to change, ie go from a fast zoom for sport to a sharp prime for portraits

I walk around at the moment, though sometimes Ill know a photo I want to take in advance while walking

I normally keep to one at a time, some I find quite hard to use all the time though

Shooting wildlife, it's one lens out of which ever 3 weights I am willing to lug around that day.

Both. Wildlife is fickle, but most days I just wanna take a walk.

Usually I go out with a general kind of photo I want to take, even if I don't have a specific shot planned, and I'll put the lens on that makes the most sense for my plans, so I don't usually need to swap lenses.

I've found a lot more success with the latter.

It would be disingenuous to say I don't hope people like photos that I take, but I know I can't count on getting a lot of engagement with my pictures, so I wouldn't take them if I didn't find photography fulfilling on its own merits.

I try to keep the same lens on as much as possible, but I do find myself changing lenses out of FOMO too much for my liking

I usually walk around, choosing whatever street or going on a hike and just shooting away alongside a friend or something

me, I think it would be a lie to say I don't think of how people like the picture, but I usually think of myself first

Depends on what I'm shooting and if I decided to take along another lens. You can't change lenses if you only got the one on your camera.
