>>3972614not a particularly good pic from a particularly awesome photographer
i met eggleston in a exposition he promoted in rio back in 2015, himself was very nice in person too; there were a few soso pics like op amongst quite a few beautiful ones, but what remarked me most: it was the first time i noticed that photography is an art in its very beginnings, like music from pythagoreans was once many millennia ago;
as an art, it has little arché, too little of a tradition from where artistic ideas develop, and in its many movements, from it derives channels of communications between artisans in many eras and societies or even classes, and into what is called the great conversation; if today we see some pics from that eggleston era as snapshots, it's bc it was about that time that the very possibility of snapshots (colorful, plenty) arised;
in a parallel what was once a hallmark of historical pics (large format, shallow dof); already was -pardon me- resignified as an aesthetic by some photogs, like sally mann;
it won't be long until something like that happens to snapshots, that is, its pictorial is to be remastered under a new aesthetics, and from that, an new effect artistic will rise; but that might be longer we will live to see it happen, for decades if not centuries of photography to come
