To give you a bit of history: /p/ has ALWAYS been mostly about gear. And in the other 20% of actual photo threads, the work is generally pretty terrible.
At the same time critiquing photos is hard work. Too much effort for 4chan, except for discussing photos on strictly technical terms.
When it comes down to it, this is just a board with a small number of people who talk about things they like. If you don’t like it, you’re welcome to go elsewhere.
