Is this typical of Sony glass? Local photog groupie is looking to offload an old A7 with the 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 for $900. He let me borrow it for a couple of hours and honestly I'm perplexed. This isn't what I was expecting, but I have no idea, I've never shot Sony before.

These are SooC jpegs, just took them into Ps for color correction because I hate sony colors. Would I be getting a good deal at that price? If not what should I offer him?
