Beyond Photoshop, McCurry was always a tourist, an amazing travel photographer. Even at war, he knew what to sell. The pictures are staged or shot to look as if they were. They are boring. You'll never see a photo of McCurry that evokes some meaning, a hard and real image with a clear intention, with impact, shaking the viewer's consciousness. Guess the writing filled that gap.
As a photographer with Magnum, you assume no McCurry print goes up on a wall without his personal go-ahead. He is the greatest tourist photographer in the world, that's why he is part still part of Magnum.
