>>3994572There's definitely luck when it comes to flying birds, but I have to disagree about it being easy or gear being the hardest part. If you don't have the minimum focal length, you just can't do bird photography, flat out. There's a barrier to entry, but I don't consider that a difficulty.
The hardest part, for me at least, is patience. Birds will not be in the place you want them to be. Sometimes they won't be there at all. You have to sit and wait, usually while being very quiet. If a bird isn't in the right position or spot, wait until it is, and sometimes it never will. I take shitty pictures all the time for ID purposes, but the vast majority I would never dream of showing anyone. Birds offer so much personality to nature photos - why not aim to get it right?
