Composition, light, colour, everything is balanced and even though the editing obviously isn't subtle, it's beautiful.
Realism isn't the only school of photography, it's my favourite, but this guy's work is just as valid, and he deserves to win that prize as much as any other. Everyone know that the top 3 artists can pretty much always be swapped around depending on the jury and the goals they established for that year.
Go take better photos and enter contests, or become a jury or something if you don't like it.
