Some snapshots from my first self-developed roll of color film, Ektar 100 shot with Minolta SRT-101 28mm.

Very pleased with DSLR scanning + NLP. I think the results are even better than what the lab gives me. Shooting a roll, coming home and immidiately being able to develop it and see the pictures is a huge plus.

The SRT-101 is a solid camera. It was the first one i bought and i got it for dirt cheap. As for the lens I don't have much to say - it does the job well. This camera has been sitting on the shelf for years ever since I got gifted an Olympus OM-2n, which i personally think is the best 35mm camera ever made.

My lab is a 5 min walk from my office and does developing + scanning for $7 with next day delivery and I still felt the need to develop at home. Can’t imagine having to wait a week to see my pictures.

What scanner do they use? If they use a proper scanner like a noritsu or a frontier they can easily get you higher res than that, but you might need to pay up. Just ask.

argenti contrasto 200 on reused ID-11 1+1 (yeah it's not supposed to be reused but whatever) 13 minutes at 21°C. They came out quite thin.

the minolta srt101 is my go to. no split prism is fucking annoying as hell though.
i've got a 28mm 3.5 (not the 2.8, costs more lul and I don't shoot apertures bigger than 5.6 unless I want to isolate a subject like the gun pic usually so I don't care). it's a really great lens and I love wide angle so I'm happy with it.

IDK how it was stored, it is fuji 400h that expired in 2002 and I just got ahold of it not a half a year ago.
Did leave the rolls in the car for a day or two after exposing, not sure if that would do anything

Would you consider the lack of reliability/repairability of the CLE enough to dissuade you from buying one for long-term ownership? M mount lenses and aperture priority is attractive but I've heard internet rumours about them randomly shitting themselves and basically being unrepairable. If they're truly that much of a ticking time bomb I'm just gonna buy a Canon 7s and simply cope with the lack of of more modern lenses.

i haven't figured out how to shoot color anything at night, once everything starts to become lit by artificial light of various temperatures. it seems like no matter how i white balance, everything is going to look like shit. even when im using a gray card... sampling different areas of the grey card will yield slightly different results. its maddening. during the day i use a daylight preset (digital) or just accept what the film does.

you cant white balance film lol. most film is white balanced for daylight so if it's underexposed it'll be super green. also if your meter says expose for more than one second, you're also gonna need to multiply that by 1.6 for reciprocity failure.

has anyone gotten thick dense negatives out of HP5 lately? I haven't changed my development routine and i feel like it's much different from HP5 from way older batches. I even sent a roll to a lab to see and it was also dense. makes it harder to print. the edge markings don't look darker from the other batches, it's just the rest of the film roll that is dense.

no, and if you don't trust me lock the mirror up and you'll see that it'll be still level. you should replace it though, because the foam helps the mirror slap from shaking the camera too much. if you do a handheld on 1/30 it can be a problem. it's not totally shot but it's on its last leg. if you replace it make sure it's not too long since that can stop the mirror from travelling where it's supposed to

If it's the old aluminum-bodied XG9 then it should serve you well for a very long time. The later plastic-bodied ones are shit and have a lot of problems. I've found the 45mm Rokkor suffers from focus shift though so I advise getting something else for it. The 1.4/50 MC Rokkor-PG is a great standard lens.

3600 dpi (its technically it's max, even if they say 7200), turn off all auto settings (gane and auto sharpening, CCR). I just have the film preset on and multiple exposure depending on how many rolls I have. if I have like 36 x3 rolls to go through I'm not gonna have ME for each image, that takes too much time.

added some sharpness in Lr but mostly just removed marks and dust specs very quickly

I feel like I'm talking about cars, but that one is a near mint single owner Cali camera that came with the kit zoom and only has a cracked viewfinder mount from the flash shoe. Fuck if I remember how much I paid, $250 to 350 sounds about right for something good to mint with current prices. The FV or whatever the third gen is called that has the timer but no light meter is probably the best deal, you pay out the ass for the gothic F. Be prepared for 300-600 dollar primes if you want something that doesn't come on it.

yes, it does. i mostly shoot color 120 so i lab scan those but the dust and scratch removal works great, i tried on a very old negative from the 90s of my dad with visible scratches and it cleaned it up pretty well. scratches were still visible since they’re deep in on the surface of the neg, but extremely acceptable result

Can you explain this in more detail? I was under the impression that by pushing you could compensate for underexposure. I'm sure underexposing by one stop would still produce images without pushing, of course, but why would I not want to push it at all?

Depending on the film you most likely have enough latitude where one stop isn’t really worth a push. Also color neg looks horrible underexposed anyways so anything less than a stop or 2 over is already not ideal, regardless of if you try to chemically overexpose.

walked by a park/playgrounf and some mom asked me if i could take pictures of her kid and her. the kid is roaming around on monkey bars and shit and some paki walks up to me and calls me a pedo and threatens to beat me and break my cameras and to call the cops, which i told him to do. it got sorted out because the parents who saw it go down took my side and told him to fuck off. i feel so insulted and disheartened that i feel like i dont wanna shoot anymore. being called a pedo is the worst insult i’ve heard and i cant sleep over it. the big issue is that it happened practicing my hobby. photography feels tasteless now.

Lel anon that's worst case scenario and nothing to be done really.
Realistically, the only way to balance in situations like that is to blast with daylight flash, that will overpower everything else.
Second best option is gel your flash to something close to the dominant ambient light's colour temp, and then you can cancel it out in post (or if it's something common like tungsten, even with a lens filter).
Sometimes if the light is horrid (all over the place in temperature), it's better to shoot B&W.

Hell no eBay prices are through the roof, WEX has a good selection for reasonable prices, look at other camera stores online, Google shopping is quite good. Also Boots theoretically sells x-tra 400 and c200, but it's rare, check every boots you see, plenty of Ilford though.

Actually not looking to enlarge (was just going to lay film directly on the paper), I just want something to scan on my flatbed since my attempts at scanning the negatives hasn't resulted in anything useful. Figure with just buying the supplies it'll be cheaper than dumping $300 on the cheapest film scanner

500T can be had for pretty cheap by the 400ft roll (around 1/6th the cost per 34-shot cartridge of Cinestill's repack), but that means dealing with Remjet removal before processing, and 'losing' the removed antihalation layer for shooting.

Is it reasonable to remove the remjet before shooting, or is trying to dry the film again and reroll not viable without a darkroom?

Yes, I have. I got a perfectly functioning Nikon N80 that remains my go-to 35mm camera, and a Fujica DL-100 that was fine except a minor light leak that was easy to fix.

But if you're going to do it, don't make a huge risk. I paid $20 for the N80 and $9 for the Fujica, so if they didn't work it wouldn't be a big deal. Also consider the seller. Is the seller focused on cameras and should have the capacity to test, or just someone trying to sell their parents' old junk and can't be bothered to test it?

Remjet removal seems easy enough: copy the scrubber mechanism shown in the Kodak ECN manual (just loops over a couple of rollers to press the backside against a rotating sponge) and hook a takeup spool to a motor to remove the Remjet for an entire 400ft roll at once. No time or temperature constraints.
Doing the same automated processing for c41 means constructing your entire own minilab from scratch, which is a pain.

If you're going to develop the black and white, stand develop it because this will maximize the chances of getting a usable and not crushed image
There are development places that can develop old film and will process them in a way as conducive as possible to saving the images. https://thedarkroom.com/old-rolls-film-developing/ is just one example. Please look into these before possibly destroying priceless memories in haste.

Lubitel is a TLR with a fixed 75mm/4.5 lens. I used Ektachrome film (and I think the colors are actually really nice but I made a half-assed scan).

I got the seals replaced. Hopefully that remedies it. Sucks that I have to shoot a whole roll of film to find out though; makes me not want to try to take ncie photos (not that I will anyway).
