I have been deliberating on getting a CLA'd copy of the Yashica Mat 124G.
One question I'm having is if a quoted price of US$550 is an audacious markup driven by soaring demand from Youtube yuppies. I have considered Mamiyas, Rollei's, Ricoh's, and other Yashica's. But I loathe myself for favoring the looks and operation of the 124G more than any other camera.
Old-timers on photography forums tirade on the supposedly inferior optics of the Tessar type lens. But this video from Kyle McDougall seems to contradict these allegations > https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkWY2zMb0jc. I don't know if the photos can be verified as sharp to the trained eye, but they look good enough to me. It's still a controversial camera with very polarizing opinions.
>tl;dr: Is there a justification for getting this camera? Are all these claims misanthropic hearsay on a perfectly capable TLR? Is there intrinsic and resale value?
