>>4019674I got that with a redcat 51, which is fairly straight forward and beginner friendly. Love the cover having a built in Bahtinov mask for fine focusing.
You'll definitely want a heavier duty tracker, or a proper mount if you plan on using anything bigger down the line. That particular image was done unfiltered,
on an unmodified D3300, I think about 2 hours total time at 25 seconds per exposure at 1600 ISO, but I'm not home to check that, sorry. I use a cheap remote intervalometer set I got on Amazon, nothing fancy.
I think in general, zooms don't perform well for this. They always seem heavy on the chromatic aberrations. A lot of AP YouTubers use Rokinon/Samyang F/2 135mm with pretty great results, and I've got one myself for whenever I get a modified camera.
>>4019690Yeah, cameras have IR filters that make it a bit difficult to get the infrared wavelength. It's doable, but like with the Hoya filters for entry IR photography, it takes a lot more exposure time with the H-a filters.
Dedicated astrocams are nice, but require more gear, like a laptop or ASIAIR controller. I'm personally holding off on a dedicated cam and getting a Nikon Z6 II modified so I can have a more portable option. You can send in your camera to kolarivision or lifepixel to have modified for H-a, which lets you use the camera like normal without filters; you can just change the white balance to fix the slight redness it gives images. Alternatively I think an IR filter should cut that out entirely.
Sorry if this is all a bit long winded. I'd recommend NebulaPhotos or Asteobackyard on YouTube for pretty simple explanations and a bit of inspiration for the kind of photos you want to take and what gear you might want.
