Japan Camera Hunter just announced a new color reversal 400 speed film for 135, after Cinestill announced their new daylight film, 400D and Kodak announced Gold 200 for 120.
Great news for analog photography, as fuji seems to be killing off all of their films (with the new C200 being literal gold 200)
Is film here to stay this time?

I can't tell if I'd want to use this or not. gold kinda has that snapshot aesthetic that doesn't really fit with stuff you shoot medium format on.

I’d want C200 in 120. It was the sharpest colour neg I ever used, kinda grainy but a nice grain not an awful grain like many others, this was on a flextight too back in the days.

Also c200 now (which is Gold) sells for more than superia 400 these days everywhere I look. Would I rather overpay a lot for Gold 200 or overpay a little less for superia 400? For me, it's the latter.

Holy fuck man, even in my own shitty currency that works out to being about $5. Even with inflation it would still only be $10-15.

B&W film is still cheap but all the colour stuff has insane prices, some even have tags saying "due to international shortages, stocks are slow to arrive".

I hope the prices will back down at least a little bit soon. Right now I'm starting to shoot more B&W, though. Film is like half the price of color, it's available, and processing at home is free (and I can do it quickly).

They're different films. The new Fuji 200 is relabeled Kodak Gold, and people think that they're selling that instead of C200 in some markets temporarily because they're having trouble sourcing enough of their own 200 speed film to meet demand atm. Knowing Fuji it could be permanent though.

Cinestill late last night has an announcement of making 220 for their 400D as a 10k surprise if their is enough backing. With only 4 hours left and 20% backers need, no way they will make it. Still, at least there was some small hype generated for a couple hours.

So regarding prices--
Obviously film is expensive but generally developing/scanning or printing is often equally as expensive. I have to buy film now at over $10 a roll, and then developing is $15 (for color).

I bought a $20 scanner some time ago. I scanned some of my old negs and I'm at a point where I'm confident that my scans are pretty good and competitive with lab scans. And I can scan while I'm sitting at the computer anyway.

This enables me to save maybe $10 every time because I don't pay for scans, and I get better colors from my scans than I get from the lab.

If I could find a reliable way to save money on film that would also be great, but I think that going from about $30/roll for everything to about $20 is pretty significant and nice.

Another thing I am doing is shooting more B&W. It's fun as well and I can do it at home basically for free. So maybe $6/roll total.

So it's not all bad. I also get coupons from the pharmacy for like 40% off sometimes. And I can use it on film so I'm getting film at prices I definitely wouldn't get anywhere else. 3 packs of Superia 400 for like $17 compared to how it's being price gouged for $29 these days.

i started to develop my own rolls to save money since here it was processing that was pricey, but now it's the other way round: film prices are fucking delusional

Yes the grain is rather pleasant in that film... I assume you shot those at box speed?

Looks like a contrast issues to me. Probably can only be solved chemically or by reworking the emulsion itself

It's worldwide then since my country also has stock issues. Black and white film is still everywhere but colour is very hard to come by and it sells out fast.
