I haven't any b&w negatives but I don't see why they would cause any problems.
The resulting files are fine for online and I bet you could print good 6x4 prints as well. I'm sure someone good at editing could get better results than I do (I only know some basic Snapseed stuff). I'll post some more as I work though my old negs.
If you can get one cheap I think it would be fun to play with.
