I assume x:x G is the same as f/ratio?

I know one or two things about optics but haven't really taken photos with dedicated cameras besides a DC-FT7 for underwater photography

the body is a bit old but thats some nice glass right there.

i think its images should be pretty nice but the fps in burst and autofocus might not be great by todays standards

his coordination isn’t what it used to be so he doesn’t use the camera anymore, especially with the heavy glass. Photography was his biggest hobby, must make good use of it

definitely not, I enjoy taking pictures, especially animals, but also astrophotography. Though this is my first proper camera setup that isn't super specific (have an astrocam and a tough camera for snorkeling/diving)

Guess I will have to experiment, maybe I'll try shooting birbs even if 200mm is a bit short

D800 is a gem of a camera. Professional level and highly regarded at the time. I remember when it came out and thinking I would kill for one. Easily capable of professional quality images even today.

I just got a D60 body with accoutrements for $50.

Camera itself is physically flawless, about 10,800 actuations.
But there are a few blue/green dead pixels that show up in the shots. Maybe 10-15. But Capture One spot removal tool seems to clear them up

idk man, that doesn't seem like a great deal given the dead pixels. I also don't know why anyone would get one of the consumer level DSLRs with no built-in focus motor when you can get D90, D200, D300 for around 100 dollars.

I assume most cameras have dead pixels right from the beginning. There should be an option to (re)map dead pixels so that they get interpolated. Google it.

So I don't have any "Dead" pixels, but rather many "Hot" pixels and a few "Stuck" pixels.

But your suggestion was nice, I didn't even think this was something someone would DIY fix in the first place.

Most of my Hot pixels are better. The "Stuck" pixels are kinda just stuck but they're slightly less obvious now. You can't really see them unless you pixel peep the image. Overall performance of the image improved.

For the pixels still left it only takes me 3 minutes to peep/scrub them in Capture One so no biggie. Fun CCD sensor, I never had a DSLR with one, only a point-and-shoot back in the day.

200mm is my max so the best I can try probably andromeda or the milky way when it is up again. I already have a sturdy mount for my telescope so I might look at investing in a star adventurer.

Not too much, but the 28-105 is an ok lens. The EOS 1 is a top tier analog camera in its type/context, you can have loads of fun with it and you can enjoy analog photography and full lens platform compatibility with any modern Canon digital camera. The 1000F was the first affordable digital SLR. Don't expect cunt hair's detail but it's still fully usable and might even get you some retro look if you're into that. If you enjoy photography, they're worth more just keeping them. Don't expect to get much more than $100 for the set if even that.

I think I don't really have a full appreciation for the kit yet.
From googling I can tell the 105mm is a macro lens with vibration reduction and the ability to be relatively far away from what you are imaging?

I tried shooting orion and stacked about 100 images, though my flats were pretty bad.
I'm waiting for a camera bag before I take it to the park, don't want it bumbling around in my backpack.

I have the same 70-200mm, it was gifted to me from my dad's photographer friend. I believe he said B&H only wanted to give him a few hundred for it on trade in but knowing that it's probably worth more via private sale. it's a nice lens though, I'd like to keep mine but I've since switched to sony

unless you're spending hours engaging and trying to build the page, he's right. no one is interesting in photography anymore, especially not from a new account. i think it'd be sweet for him though
