film and dev is pretty pricy but you might be able to shoot it a few times a year for special occasions like a road trip or christmas or something though

Yeah no kidding, the amount for 3.5 mins of film isn't cheap. But like you said, I'd rather use it on trips with my friends or at the beach with my girlfriend or something. Do you think things this old stop working often and it'd be a bad investment, or should I go for it? I know you might not really be able to answer that, just looking to see if people are familiar with similar stuff.

you should only do this if you love the way super8 looks and it would bring you joy to shoot it. you're probably never going to make money with it but if you accept that, no problem i think.

as for if this specific model is prone to breakage i do not know. but a few rolls a year won't be too crazy if you consider it like saving special memories. I know it's reddit but I remember seeing this a while ago and it really opened my eyes to how kino super 8 is. the ravel helps too, i think his editing is fantastic

Why not some cheaper cam? The lens quality won't make a huge difference with such a small negative
