historically CF was faster than SD, but SD has caught up. CF is also supposed to be more durable

CF is flash storage, SD is Solid State. Flash is faster over USB 2.0, but Solid State takes better advantage of USB 3.0 which is why SD cards are faster these days.

My notebook has an integrated sd card reader. It doesn't swallow cf.
