What is, in your opinion, the best mirrorless camera for someone who just entered the world of photography and wants to use the camera for travel photography for start? It's ideal not to be very expensive but to be a future-proof camera as much as possible.

Difficult. Also have to think about lens options. I’d say a 2nd hand APSC mirrorless system to keep the cost down as much as possible. For better future proofing possibly a use A7iii. EOS Rp is also quite cheap new entry level body. There’a the Nikon Z50 (APSC) and Z5 (FF)

I'd recommend the gear thread for your terminal condition. No camera is completely future-proof because there will always be a new gadget for you to spend money on.
But the short, easy answer is "anything MFT or APS-C from the past 6 years or so"

make sure to get an optically stabilized lens (OSS lens as Sony calls them) if a6400.

I had one. Kind of nice. But if you have an iphone 13, that would do just as well if not better unless you want the reach of something like the 70-350mm F4.5-6.3 G OSS lens, which will give you better zoom for wildlife

Yea, the only company I see for sure keeping APS-C is fujifilm because obviously they don't have FF cameras.
Nikon too, they seem to have always liked APS-C DSLR's and their thought process hasn't changed in Mirrorless. But they will always be the "entry level" methodology.

Buy something used made after 2012 or so with a good used lens selection. Whatever the technical nitpicking about the FPS, autofocus, or sensor noise, poor photos will not be the fault of the camera.

The olympus would be my travel camera because its so durable and multi purpose, but fuji colors. There are other options but these are the cameras I know.

I‘ve been contemplating this thing ever since the first gen released. I kinda want one, but the sensor makes me apprehensive. M4/3 is relatively small as it is, and using even less of that surface doesn’t sit well with me. Especially since I stick to a 4:3 aspect ratio for nearly all of my photos, so the crop advantage Panasonic proclaims with this camera is entirely lost on me.

Avoid entry-level nikons, they don't support non-electronic lenses.
I'd suggest 60 or 70D but since you want something light and small for traveling I'd say M50 or M6, second hand obviously.

Before you decide to buy something, can you identify what exactly is missing when you are trying to take a photo with your phone?
Can you remember situations where you wanted to take a photo but your phone just couldn't do it for you?
When you can truly feel that your phone is limiting your photography and what you need to be able to take photos you're satisfied with it's very easy to find the right camera for you.
Right now it just seems to me that you want to spend your money on some gadget.

New to mft? If you wanna go for it, pick up a 12-45 f4 or 12-40 f2.8 zoom used for 500-600 bucks and see if you like the system. Theyre the best overall everyday lenses for the system. If you decide to stick with the system, maybe you can get an em1mk4 or some shit when they come out down the line or get an em1mk3 on the cheap when it does. Those lenses hold their value so you wont lose much if you decide its not for you and sell up.

New to photography in general and looking to learn, I just don't want to spend too much money at first I suppose.
Just get myself a system to familiarize with.

I've followed some of the discussions concerning the 'pros' and 'cons' of different sensor sizes but for what I'll be doing I suppose it doesn't really matter.

There's another OMD EM5 body I can get for 175€ so it's going to be either of those, thank you for your advice I will definitely follow up on it.

Oh well if youre a complete beginner and looking to save money, the 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 kit lens will do you for now. People are always selling them off because theyre upgrading.

Take notice of what you like shooting the most from there on out so you can decide where to go next. If youre interested in any kind of wildlife, the 40-150 might be a good choice down the line. Its only like 200 bucks. Might be a good investment if you find yourself taking pictures of birds or scaring things off because 42mm forces you to get too close. If instead you find yourself struggling in low light or taking portraits more often, maybe a 17 or 25mm fast prime would be better. For now, just have fun.

Honestly a really good beginner camera is a Canon SL3. It uses the EF/EFS mounts and has an APS-C sensor (it has a mirror). If you're a beginner I'm not sure why you care about internal mirrors anyway..
This DSLR shoots above 5 shots/sec and is very lightweight.

If you want a recommendation based on price specifically, you should probably just get a nice phone camera. It'll be cost effective and have practical purpose. Plus with minimal attachments this will fit most beginner needs.

Factory refurbished you can get the body for $400 or body and kit lens for $500. On ebay you can get used a bit less.

It supports focus peaking and has a short flange distance, so it's great for adapting old vintage manual lenses.

EF-M native glass also has a much wider selection now than at launch, or you can adapt EF or EF-S lenses if that makes more sense for you.

I use a EF-S 55-250 adapted to my M50 quite a lot and it works great
