In general, DSLRs are more versatile so there's certainly nothing wrong with them. Mirrorless cameras are lighter but there are less lens options and the autofocus will be slower with more battery drain. DSLRs also have better viewfinders for obvious reasons.
Mirrorless are faster cameras though, both with light gathering and actual continuous shutter speeds, so they are better for sports shots and indoor shooting if you know what you're doing. If you aren't comfortable managing a camera in manual mode then definitely don't go mirrorless; to get a great shot you'll usually have to tweak at least one setting (put the cam on Av priority for instance).
