>>4028950I've been thinking of leaving Kharkiv since Pooteen announced recognition of separatist states in the eastern Ukraine. I knew there gonna be a big war, but I thought we will have some more time.
On the February 23 my gfs friend visited us and we discussed how we gonna evacuate to the west.
In the morning of 24th 5 a.m we woke up by the sounds of explosions, gathered our necessities, took touristic backpacks and went out of the city by foot. Roads were so crowded that even moving on foot we were faster than those who moved on cars.
Around 30 kms later we hitchiked a trucker from the western city, and drove with him for 24 hours approximately. Seen a lot of tanks, APCs, soldiers etc.
A bridge we were driving through was blown up a day later, including civilian cars that were in a traffic jam at the time of explosion.
Driving through Kiev while it being shelled was especially scary.
Now I regret about not taking any photos on our cameras during the trip, only few on my gfs iphone 7. But in the moment I was so freaked out that couldn't think of anything but how to survive.
