How significant of a role does gender play in being a photographer?
Since women are inherently flighty and men inherently horny, it would make since that biological differences can be seen in how humans tackle taking pictures.

Erotic photography is a meme anyway, might as well go into full hardcore porn. Some people try to delude themselves into thinking eroticism is art and not the most cowardly and hypocritical way to appeal to your most basic, animalistic desires while still trying to see yourself (and be seen) as sophisticated and intellectual. Photography is more of a man's hobby than cars are. For some reason, women seem to be inherently incapable of taking good pictures. You see this all over the internet. It makes it all the more impressive when you see a female pro because it's so rare.

Women are better at fashion and selfies for obvious reasons ie girls buy the majority of clothing. For every single other thing guys are better. You could also argue women don’t really has as much incentive to care about the other things so maybe a few could get good if they dedicated the time but it’s really not worth it for them.

Women have a more intuitive approach and different eye for detail. The ones I've known personally have a "masculine" personality and interests compared to your average femoid but not exceptionally so. They're less technically concerned but more involved in the whole process and favor aesthetics. They're more fastidious than men in the darkroom or with editing but have a very different approach to problem solving.

It's the same with many of the visual arts. Lots of sour grapes and lack of exposure to the process, do nothings belittle everything. A good number of craftsmen and those in technical fields are talented artists as a matter of course.

this thread is full of weirdos that don't go outside and have weird complexes about the opposite sex but i do have some thoughts on this. gender is a social construct and shit but making broad generalizations i think the female photographical eye tends to go more towards family photos, portraiture and weddings and shit like that, whether thats because of womanly instincts or conforming to social standards or both. there's absolutely nothing wrong with that either, the two most influential photographers to me are women who work(ed) in that field (my mom and Elsa Dorfman). i think male photographers can tend to have more of an obnoxious narcissistic ego about themselves and their work. like women, men are also not immune to social conformity so of course they can tend to shoot cars or [insert other stereotypically masculine subject here]. sexuality can influence a lot in portraiture since portraits are inherently about figuring out how to get the subject to look a specific way. the person behind the camera's sexuality and aesthetic preferences can subliminally influence that. the gender identity of a subject has a big influence on how i go about things too, if the pictures are of a cis or trans woman im more likely to export photos where i think she'd be pleased with her appearance and if im shooting a cis man or trans man im more likely to export a photo where he looks handsome or might be doing something goofy.
