Lmao, you know habbelsad are now "partnered" with OnePlus and oppo smartphones now? Since DJI bought them they've become purely a branding opportunity.

2 things they need to do.
Get Autofocus up to par.
Get Autofocus lenses that are priced competitively with Tamron and Sigma.

If they can do these 2 things I will consider changing to their medium format.

This. Price barrier to MF. Also needs modern AF as good as current state of the art. MF is for people with much more money and who want much more detail. Apart from the body cost. The Fuji 110mm f/2 is $2.8K USD, and a ~85mm 1.6 equivalent, it’s more about detail than anything else. My 85 1.8 is about $600, while an 85mm 1.4 comes in $530, $1200, $1800 options. Doesn’t make a lot of sense unless you’re super autist about res.

I would say 100/100s + lens with LM is pretty quick. The other camera models are much worse at AF, and the lenses without LM are slower.

Yeah. The 50s series i think still doesn’t have phase detection.
If I wanted a medium format though, I think Fuji has the best offering but I don’t want, so I didn’t do a lot of research.

If DJI manage to work with Laowa I think they will be able to acquire competent optics for really low pricing.
Currently Laowa has 2 lenses that can Shift 8mm on medium format, which means Laowa is capable of making optics for even larger formats than medium format.

If DJI can combine Laowa optics with good autofocus, they got this market in the bag.

and this is for the good reason.
The fact is pdaf is for speed and contrast af is for accuracy and precision.
50s is landscape and still subject camera while 100s is also video camera (that's why they integrated pdaf in it). phase detect af often have a problems with banding noise. Leica don't use pdaf for the good reason

Laowa doesn't have a single lens with AF yet. They barely have any lenses with electrical contacts for EXIF. You might as well ask DJI to buy Olympus so they can make AF lenses at this point

I wouldn't bet on it. DJI already makes their own af lenses for their drones. They're on the more expensive side. They are pretty good, though. Some people have speculated that they're working with some else.

Interesting point is that they're also very light, obviously weight is of importance on drones, so hopefully they can transfer that into handheld cameras.

Not even Sony is using PDAF on their landscape cameras. PDAF is only good for fast action, it's causing visible artefacts when shooting small apertures. No video camera is using PDAF as a consequence. I think that broadcasting cameras are without it as well.

1. You need to use crap lens with bad flare coating
2. You need to provoke the flare in order to make if reflect of the AF points.
3. You need to shoot below ISO 3200 to even enable it to begin with.
4.You need to push the exposure a lot in post to make it visible.

That's not going to help in this case. It's light hitting pdaf sites on the sensor. It can not be avoided. The real solution is simply using a camera with no pdaf tech.

All new pdaf cameras have hybrid af, and it doesnt matter. Pdaf is physically always present on the sensor, so it can't be just turned off. Defects against sun bursts can not be negated in any way. You can look at Fuji pdaf cameras as well

You need to provoke the reflections in a deliberate way to make them appear.
For example shooting heavily underexposed at ISO 100, like in your sample,
And using crappy 200 dollar Samyang lenses with no flare coatings.

Yeah, but sadly, there are exceptions even there. Look up latest Monochrom samples for starbursts. 40mp b&w sensor with inactive pdaf grid. It was designed as industrial sensor.

Its always present. All lenses, all exposures, all iso settings. I own several pdaf cameras. At small appertures its glaring, and causes plenty of problems when gunho shooting video.

You first need to consider what is medium format in itself.

Did you know that 120 film shot in 645 format covers a greater image area than the newish Fuji GFX 50 series sensor. The Fuji sensor is 44x33mm and 645 film format is 56x42mm. And 645 is the smaller of the medium format film sizes.

Long story short even 20 years after the last film cameras were being sold new, for professional work it still is cheaper and you still get just as good if not better images on medium format film over digital. Forget about DJI.

You hire the worlds best optical designers, best sensor designers, best electronic designers. Then within usually just a few years of R&D, 1-5 years depending on the complexity, you can come out with cutting edge technology that beats the competition. Nothing is being stolen. What companies like DJI pay big bucks for are designers that have 30 years + experience in the business. What you fail to recognise is that DJI has a vision and is willing to spend money to take the risk and to make that vision happen. Most other camera companies play it safe which is why you don't often see innovative products.

High resolution FF beats 6x9 on a drum scanner, to say nothing of MF digital. I definitely prefer MF over 35mm when shooting film. But film costs are so absurd (and getting worse) that I'm not even really doing it as a hobby any more and thinking of dumping my MF kit. It makes me sad but the days when it could out perform my digital kit are long gone, and they won't stop jacking film prices.

I heard that DJI is coming out with a medium-format M43 sensor. It will be M43, but medium format. I asked my source what this meant, and he said "it will be a medium format M43 sensor." Pretty incredible stuff, if it's true, which it is. (My source also predicted Fuji.)
