Canon T3i guy looking for what to buy.

I got into photography a little over a year ago
and have been using a T3i that my Mom gave to me, along with the two old Canon lenses (58mm and a 250mm) that came with it. The whole package has been wonderful, and I've been able to do great things with it.

While I don't see it lacking significantly anywhere, I've saved up some money, and thought it would be worth asking if there was a worthwhile upgrade/thing to buy with about $2000.

Also, what's something you think every beginner should know?

Post photos, not gear.
Besides that this camera would still do a good job for many years. I'd rather consider a nice lens than a different body

Anything in particular come to mind? Either something essential or something geared towards wildlife if you want specifics.

Still have my t3i I got like 8 years ago, great camera. It can't shoot video, or macro as good as the newer phones but it does everything else better and clearer. Also of doesn't overheat, or even heat up or freeze like even these $5000 cameras seem to do.

What do you feel your camera is lacking? It's clearly letting you down at something or you wouldnt be here. Do you want to shoot in more severe conditions but are afraid of getting it wet? Maybe you want to shoot at night time more but it's not up to it. Do you find yourself missing shots and need something that shoots more quickly? Do you want something with more video features? Or maybe you just want a more engaged shooting experience and better ergonomics?

The difference between a shot that is the result of the photographers skill/experience and a photo that leans on the strengths of the gear. Both are great images but there's a difference why they are great.

Spend in lenses. EF/EF-S mount had some great ones over the years and getting some used might be a bargain.

Get a 10-22mm, 17-55mm and a 55-250mm and you will probably never need to upgrade your body. The EF-S Holy Trinity is nasty, if not more ridiculous than the EF Trinity+Fisheye.

youre literally a newborn. that camera will be above your payroll for the next 5 years so stay humble and first learn how to use it.

id advise you to get old russian/m42 lenses for portraits and such, theyre still super cheap, but since you ask wildlife, a fast focusing EFs tele or zoom then. keep the money, shoot more.

Essential wide the 50mm f1.8 is never wrong. Might as well take a look at the 24-70mm or the 24-105mm.

Zoom wise I'd suggest the 70-200mm f4, preferably with IS or the 70-200mm 2.8. Also the f4 without IS is very sharp and has great IQ and rendering.

This is solid advice OP but I wouldnt say 5 years unless moneys tight and you don't shoot every day. Dont suffer if you want to do something and the camera isnt up to the task and you have the funds. You dont have to spend a fortune but if there is something lacking in your current body that you cant solve with lenses, it's time to look around for what you want.

The whole idea behind the beginner dlsr is to figure out if you are seriously interested in photography or if its just a passing phase. You learn the exposure triangle and figure out what you like to shoot. You then take that information and look at better cameras that would suit what you want to do. You might just find your starter dslr is good for everything you want to do and that's fine too.

this shit right here. T3i is same sensor as a 60d and has the flippy screen too. Loved my 60D when I had it.

10-18, Nifty Fifty and probably 55-250 are all you really need for a budget Holy Trinity spend the rest on travel to take pictures. If you wanna ball a bit, do the 10-18, 50 1.4 USM and 70-200 f4L IS. the 18-55 IS kit lens that came with it is also decent, I used one on an underwater 20D rig I made with an Ikelite housing.

also, little secret but the Sigma EX 24mm 1.8 is a good alternative to the Nifty Fifty as it gives an equivalent 40mm FOV and they can be had fairly cheap.
