>>4031444I had an a6400 and wanted IBIS so I got the a6600.
When they came out with the A7C I jumped ship into that for the FF. I like the rangefinder style eyepiece. A7C has a really bad viewfinder, its slightly worse than the a6600 and for a FF camera that's absolutely inexcusable. But coming from APS-C viewfinders, it doesn't bother me as much as my friend who has the A7r4 which I've used too. The biggest peeve isn't the size of the EVF its that they made it not accept eye-cup pieces. You literally just have to put notches int he side of the eyepiece to accept removable cups, like the a6400/6600. It literally adds NO extra space requirements to do this. My only thought is they purposely neutered this 'feature' to make it a "Base model" you'd want to upgrade to their "big boy models". Absolutely fucking ridiculous I have to buy a fucking hotshoe mounted eyecup for the fucking camera.
I plan on taking it hiking in Montana in a month. It's not that much bigger than an a6600, you just have to get the right lenses. Ultimate compact hiking would probably be a Samyang 35mm f2.8 lens. Extremely small and lightweight. I have the Sony 40mm. I had a Sigma 45mm but traded it, probably shouldn't have since its pretty much the same as the Sony 40.
Anyways, "is it worth it?" For me, yes, I was able to buy some lenses that just weren't available for the APS-C line for bokeh performance. The closest thing I had was a Kamlan f1.1 mk2 but it was manual only and razer thin focal plane.
2nd Generation was explicitly addressed by Sony as "not coming in 2022", beyond that, I haven't heard any further news.
I really like my Sony A7c, but if they ever updated the EVF in a 2nd generation I'd switch right away.
