How much or effort would you put into taking a photo of yosemite tunnel view?
Would you wait for the lighting to be just right, or move on and see other things?
Would you sign up for a workshop and take the same image dozens besides you are taking?

because they don't want to? i'm in the same camp as you, i like looking for unique views, and if i'm at a hotspot i like looking for more interesting/unique shots, but not everyone who buys a camera is trying to be an original photographer. some people just want to take photos to remember their vacation, just with an interchangeable lens camera instead of their phone. it doesn't bother me, if anything it just means fewer people on the actual trails.

I take very much a process-oriented approach to making art, and even then I want to ensure that my process reflects my own person. Taking a dead-on shot of the Eifel tower does not reflect my own person and artistic process. Maybe if I walked up to the base and took an abstract macro of some peeling paint that might get a bit closer to my own original take on the process of taking a photo of the Eifel tower.
Lastly, as a tangential aside, I think that art is doing art. An artwork is not art, it is simply the physical or perceived result of that doing.

The things that I like about photographs and photography, generally, are:
1) spontaneity
2) surprises
3) discovery

And when I take landscapes, I like:
1) being alone

So the idea of going to stand around with a bunch of khaki-and-hiking-boot retiree boomers on prescribed day at prescribed time taking the same photo is a total abnegation of the things I like about photography generally and landscape photography specifically, and even goes a little bit further into A Special Kind of Obscene Hell.

I have fully discussed this with other real human beings. I performed a spoken word ambient piece at an open mic event and I had a discussion afterwards where a person asked me what my influences were. I responded that I had been reading/listening to interviews of experimental musicians and that I had been trying to embrace ephemeriality in my works. I think the conversation went pretty well given that they said they hadn't been exposed to much ambient music.

I'd like to think that person came away from the conversation having had their world horizons expanded, and for me talking about my creative process is an externalisation that helps to order my mental schema. so a win-win. I reckon as I've gotten more solidly into adulthood I think I just don't give a fuck anymore. Like, I just go full ham on whatever topic I'm talking about as it very quickly filters out the kind of people I'm not interested in conversing with. I admit I'm not particularly knowledgeable on photography. I did like what Eliot Porter had to say about a landscape photograph being more about the world that the image implies than it is about the subject. I've borrowed from the library a book on photography theory interpreted through a lens using the philosophy of Deleuze and Guattari. So we'll see how that goes.

This. One thing nice about photography are meeting other photographers. Boomer photographers shooters are actually nice people and would always give nice tips.

It's your picture, it represents part of your journey, it's a nice little reminder of where you've been. You don't take just that picture, you accompany it with other pictures not everyone else has taken.
