Anyways, after a few months of K-1 ownership, a few thousand photos, and fixing up a few old Exaktas, I realized I needed an outlet for my photographic drive. So I went to Craigslist in June '21, found the crummiest photography job there, and took it.
The pay was abysmal, the hours were ridiculous and the whole thing was brutal. I was shooting 30 tourist-weddings a day on Fremont Street. For each wedding, I had 10 minutes to take the photos and then edit them in Microsoft Photos. This went on for a couple of months until our governor decided to institute a mask mandate, and I had zero intentions of participating. I was fired and assumed that the whole thing was over.
Three weeks later I got a call from my old boss, who had an old anti-masker chapel-owning friend who needed a photographer at their chapel. Would I be interested? I said "yes" without asking any questions. This was in September, and I have been doing all of their destination-weddings since. I spend my days in some of the most beautiful places on Earth, surrounded by very happy people, doing, what I believe, is maybe the best job on the planet.
Since getting the K-1, I have taken (besides the thousands of photos at the first chapel) 80,560 photographs.
So in one year I went from thoughtless snapshit photographer to reasonably-well-paid professional.
The reason I still come to /pee/, which I mostly find infuriating, is because, for all of its objectively vile content, I owe it a great debt of gratitude. And to remind people like you that you can do whatever you want, to whatever capacity you want, with whatever camera you want, with your photography. The only possible way to fail is to Not Do Photography. I don't agree with your "newbie friendly and secure" comment, but I don't care. Just do photography. It's literally that simple. The more you do it, the more you fail, the better you'll get. You cannot go wrong, so long as you stick to it.
