This was not supposed to happen. “Upgraded” to an X-T30ii and it’s just made me love my X-T2 more.
I only did it for the size benefit and modern sensor/processor but might just sell it on or even get an X-T3 for that incredible EVF.

It was my first Fuji I bought when it first came out, I’ve owned since:

XE3
XT3
XT4
XPro2

XT3 and 4 are barely better, in the 4’s case it’s worse in some ways since it’s bloated and the ergos suck.The X-T2 and X-Pro2 are special cameras. If you only care about stills, there is little reason to look beyond these.

The output will be very similar but the 3 and 4 do have extra (possibly only blue chrome effect actually…?) jpg options. I mainly want the 3 for the EVF and I’m also a fan of the Sports Viewfinder option which can turn my 27mm f2.8 into a perfect 50mm equivalent in a pinch. Don’t think many people use this but I like it.

I love the Xpro2 but the exp comp dial kept getting knocked when I was wearing it on a strap whilst walking and it ruined so many photos for me when using the OVF. Major design flaw.

Most significant improvement IMO is that the X-T4 has IBIS while the X-T2 and X-T3 don't. The sensor in the X-T3 and X-T4 also has a few minor improvements over the X-T2 (24 -> 26 megapixels, 200 -> 160 base ISO).

I've got an X-T100 and the external flash won't work. The flash itself is fine, works on other cameras.
Integrated flash works too, the retarded "gotcha" settings that would disable it are set to proper values: mechanical shutter, single mode, SS not exceeding sync speed.
Is there something else I'm missing? Is my hot shoe just broken?

Guys i did it! Today is the day that i finally managed do buy a x100f!!! after months of searching!! the v is still not avalible so i couldnt buy that one. I payed 790€ for one in pretty good shape and with about 9400 shots on it. I think thats okay and still better then spending 1400€ on the v. Especialy because i dont need the fetures of the v. Yea water sealing is nice and a flip out screen too... but i dont think ins worth 600€ more xD
So yea i am finally a fuji shooter (in about 5 days when its delivered)

if you want to do portraits the obvious answer is the 56 1.2
Something like a 35/33mm or the 27 are also good walk around fixed lenses, you can do pretty much anything with that.

- xf23mmf1.4
- xf35mmf1.4
- xf56mmf1.2

Which two would you keep? Which three? I’m leaning towards keeping the 35mm because of its size and it was my first lens

I've done 35/16 for years and it's been very comfortable.
The 23 is nice to have on top if you do a lot of event photography, that's ehn a 35mm equivalent is the most useful for me

I don't do portraits so I don't have much to say about the 56, it's definitely not a needed lens for me

Get a tripod anon, especially this is kind of photography you do. Lot's of potential in that scene. Don't be afraid of stopping down to get everything in focus. Learn hyperfocal distance and don't care about difraction.

I still own all 4, but shoot 18 f1.4 + 33 f1.4 most of the time now, and honestly use the 50 f2 more often than the 56

I have the xf33mmf1.4 and xf56mmf1.2. As other anon said 23+56 probably makes more sense but I just love both the 33 and 56 the most. The 56mm is my favorite and if I need some more inside the frame I pick the 33mm.

For wide I just sold my xf16mmF1.4 and replaced it with a Ricoh GR3. The xf16 is a great lens but I haven't used it all that much and I don't really like two bring a second lens with me. And if I do it's the upper combo. Now with the Ricoh I have always a light weight companion in my pocket in case I need it. And I find 18mm a bit easier to handle than 16mm.

I've had like 10 X-E3s tracked on our version of Craigslist but they never seemed to sell so I didn't feel the need to buy one yet, then X-E4 came and they instantly got sold or doubled in price. Now there's only 1 listing at a time for like 10 minutes before it's gone

Sensor is a Bayer not X-Trans. But that doesn't really matter, the size is the same (apsc) and image quality is very good. But it doesn't have those cool dials that fujifilm camera is popular for (ISO, etc). So handling may be less fun, but that's personal.

The lens is ok for the beginning but not outstanding.

For the price I would rather buy X-E4 and a used XC lens (or manual chink 7artisans). And then safe for a good lens. Or a X-T30 with the kit lens (in my country it costs 999€ so just 60€ more). Both cameras have the same sensor as the top model X-T4.

I prefer tilt. I get down on my knees to photo animals and plants a lot. Having the tilt screen centered with the camera body while I'm goofing around with the composition makes it easier to cradle in either hand or both. Biggest reason why I went with an X-T3 over an X-T4. Tilt beats swivel for me.

It imposes a smaller frame line in the viewfinder so you can see the surrounding area. It helps with sports and street but mainly I just use it like a digital zoom when I want to get closer.

Smaller aperture means more things in focus (deeper depth of field) which is typically want you want with architecture and landscape.
f5.6 or smaller is a general rule of thumb for architecture or landscape in good light as long as you still have a sufficiently fast shutter speed while handheld.
You could go even slower if the camera is on a tripod

You should be aiming for f/8, f/11 is good as well depending on the lens, but usually 8 is the sweet spot for sharpness
But anything above f/2 is fine if you haven't got enough light, with this particular photograph your subject's pretty flat so there's no risk of having one side out of focus compared to the other

I'm using the 5L Sling V1 and the flexible compartment setup is great. Fits my X-E3 with 35mm f/1.4 attached, the 10-24mm, and 50mm f/2. There's still room above the 50mm compartment for another one of the small f/2 fujicrons.
There are times I wish I had gone larger to have a water bottle compartment but that'd move me up to a much larger sling or backpack. Might be time to consider the 10L Sling to compliment my 5L.

The X-Pro3 has an OVF as well. And also that rangefinder style. But it's way more expensive.

X100V compared to the X-T20 has an inbuild ND-Filter (for bright days), leaf shutter (very silent) and another film sim (classic negative). Also as other anon said newer sensor. I would at least save for the X-T30 II then you get the same sensor. Another option is the X-E4, it has a more similar form factor to the X100V.
But if you don't care about having the newest stuff then the X-T20 is just fine. Image quality won't be different.

Somehow I'm having more fun using this setup up than my X-S10, although I've been using my X-S10 as a low profile, easy to carry camera when I'm traveling around and can't carry a lot of stuff.

Infact I already have the XT20. I wanted to get the X100V at first, but it is hard to get and besides that, I enjoy the possibility of changing lenses. I even got the adapter for my canon lenses, but that thing sucks major ass.

I don't care about having the newest stuff indeed. I just want a good workflow and the XT20 gives me that just fine. The manual adjustment is great as is the whole haptic of the camera - I got the aditional grip though.

Well anyhow I was having slight doubts, but I feel confident now. Thanks again.

Only thing that is bothering me is that my XT20 seems to "forget" the selected shutter speed on the Auto ISO modes. I will keep an eye on it.

First had a Canon 600D/T3i, but the feel and handling of the Fuji is way more appealing. I like the menu on the Canon better though.
The LX100 I also have, but the viewfinder is pretty bad. Otherwise great quality too

Size sucks on both, but much better optics and AF.
If they made an updated 18/2 with WR and better optics while still being small, I'd probably take that instead. Used to shoot with 16/1.4 and 23/1.4 often, but 18/1.4 made them redundant. I also prefer the 35/2 over the 35/1.4

i'm still seriously considering whether i should get the 100-400 or the 50-140. the former would be nice for wildlife and sports photography, and the latter would be nice for the slightly wider fov and brighter aperture

The 100-400 is a much more niche lens. If sports or wildlife are your interest, go for it, but for portraits or landscape there aren't many shots you'll need longer than 200mm, and that focal range seems like a challenge for street. 50-140 focal range is much more general purpose - it covers a fairly standard portrait range, it's not too narrow for landscape or street, and while 140mm won't get you any super detailed wildlife shots, it's still enough zoom to get you close to a mid-range subject. Both lenses are huge and heavy though, so chances are you won't want to be walking around a long time with either of them equipped.

When I compare the big sample Image on dpreview between the XT20 and the XT2 I can not see any difference in sharpness. It seems though the "big picture", as seen it in totalness, is more crisp, better balanced and something else which makes the IQ stand out more.

Is this an Illusion or what makes the difference between the two?

X-T20 & X-T2 share the same sensor and processor, so IQ should be identical with the same lens. I don' see a difference myself using DPReview's tool, but even if you see one, again, image quality is identical between the two.

Eh, post gives you more control than chimping through menus. I do like using presets to give a jpeg target for raw editing, out the box jpegs are really hit or miss when it matters. Not that anon by the way, this is more of an olympus workflow. Sometimes the lens and processor has that pop, sometimes it really, really doesn't.

X-T2 or X-T20. X-T20 will be cheaper and has a touch screen, but has a smaller viewfinder, no weather sealing, and 1 card slot instead of 2. Depends on which of those features matter (or don't) to you. Also check out the control scheme of each, they're slightly different.

Not sure how big your budget is, but I've heard good things about both the Fuji 50mm f2 and Viltrox 56mm f1.4, if you want autofocus. If you're alright with a slightly wider lens for portraits, the 35mm f1.4 is an X-mount staple and you can usually find secondhand copies for cheap, or you can go cheaper and get the XC 35mm f2. If you want narrower than 56mm for cheap, your best bet is looking for something without autofocus.

Depends on your budgeting really. I got the 18-55 with my kit but in hindsight I could've gotten the 15-45 and a used prime and probably had a better kit over all. But also both lens have different use cases.

The problem with the XC15-45 is it's build quality. It's just very awkward to use and on top of that feels extremely crappy. If you came to Fujifilm because you like build quality and tactile feedback you can't like using that thing.
I have it and don't even bring it with me even when it might be the best choice because I'd rather struggle with a prime lens than work that cheapo power zoom system.

Both LR and C1 have options for the color profile applied.
In LR it's Edit > Preferences > Presets. You can have a global default that gets applied to everything, or set a default per camera, or let LR apply the film sim used in camera.

Totally fine. You can still get plenty of bokeh in the right situation with those. There are definitely some situations where it's nice to have something faster, but you can usually work around the limitation. You just have to watch out for perspective distortion if you're getting close to fill the frame with wider angle, but great for environmental shots. I shoot a lot of 35mm f2.8 on FF, which matches an X100V.

Dunno anything specific but an aps-c with a 18-55 kit lens can do most photography. So go out and shoot toughtfully composed photos of interesting subjects in good light. Read and understand the owners manual and learn how to use various exposure modes but never let it distract you from subject and composition.

Any idea what the fuck is going on with my x-t4 and 18-55mm lens? I started noticing I was not getting critical sharpness on most of my shots compared to my x-t30 as soon as I got the camera, but I blamed my technique. At one point I tried disabling the stabilization on the lens and boom, the sharpness I was used to started being there again. Should I disable OS in the lens now that I have a body with IBIS? This is the only stabilized lens I have to test with. Pic very related, I tried at least a dozen times with OS on and every time I couldn't get a sharp shot. After disabling OS all my shots came sharp again.

Yeah, I checked and I have latest firmware on everything, I am at a loss to be honest. Will switch from IS continuous to the other mode (shoot only or something like that) and will test if that helps matters or not. But honestly not being able to have stabilization on the viewfinder is kind of shit, I got used to it in my X-T30. Oh well.

Might be an occasional problem. Apparently the IBIS follows the camera jerkily, which on the new X-H2 prevents smooth panning with a telephoto, perhaps I was unlucky to pull the trigger exactly during such a jerk

I honestly spent a solid 5min taking photos of that damn trunk and not a single one came in perfect focus. At first I thought I didn't have enough light but that was taken at 55mm 1/80 with OIS on, which should have been more than enough for perfect sharpness. That looks perfectly fine and what I've come to expect from Fuji. If you have the chance, can you try to test with a different IS mode in your body and see if that helps? It should be whatever your camera has as opposed to CONTINUOUS. My X-T4 has 3 settings: CONT, SHOOTING and OFF.

Totally fair point. I have a lot of "redundant" lenses, but I like having different lenses for certain things. There's always a trade-off in size, aperture, WR, or aesthetic. I could totally do 90% of my shooting with just 3 lenses, but don't see the point in limiting myself if I don't need to. in any case, I've been investigating and apparently when you switch off the OIS on the lens, this also disables IBIS on the camera, effectively rendering the system completely unstabilized. WTF was fujifilm thinking? I get that you don't need OIS for high shutter speeds, but I was shooting at 1/80 here >>4041925, hardly a fast shutter speed, and still it made my photo blurry. So now I have to double check all my shots and fuck around with the switch to make sure all my shots are sharp? Have you shot at 50mm before? If you were to buy the XC and end up liking the focal length (I feel like a lot of Fuji shooters exclusively shoot 50mm) you will end up wanting the XF anyway. My suggestion is look for a good second hand deal on an XF but if there's nothing available or there's a better deal on the XC try that first.
If you don't shoot much 50mm the XC is obviously the better choice

I'm switching to Fuji. I've had a Nikon D3400 and I mostly shot with the 50mm prime so it will be a first shooting on a 35mm but I have a feeling I will like it.

The XF looks amazing desu but does it really justify the 65% price difference?

They're the exact same lens optically, so it depends on whether or not you want the aperture ring and weather sealing. I'll say as someone who owns the XC 50-230mm, the plastic lens mount makes me nervous, but I've yet to have any actual problems with the mount.

I would get the XF. It has the WR rating, so it'll be more dust and water-resistant, meaning longer-lived. It also has a physical aperture ring, which is a very nice part of Fuji lenses. It is also all-metal whereas the XC is plastic.
Save up for the XF or try to find the XF used. A used copy of the WR version is more likely to not be shitty.

The MSRP of the XF is $399. The MSRP of the XC is $199. Buy from a real camera store like B+H or Adorama. Amazon price is $450 or something because often they are turds for photo gear rife with scummy 3rd party resellers buying stuff from major photo retailers.

The XF 35mm is a sweet little lens, btw. Everyone likes it.

At that budget you'd be better off getting a Voigtländer if light is what matters to you (more compact, electronic contacts, better build, less transmission loss so bigger depth of field...)

Can I have some feedback?

I have recently tried using Fuji recipes and took photos as JPG only. My problem is that when I use recipes that simulate old types of film it all looks weird, sometimes overexposed or underexposed.

Is this how it should look?

Looks fine. I don't care about the dark trees on the left side because it's not the part of the frame you want me to be looking at. In my opinion, it's alright to underexpose parts of your frame to guide the viewer to the interesting parts. You can intentionally blow highlights to do the same, but it's harder to do well because the eye is naturally drawn to bright things.

I agree, I think the composition is weak because the rails don't lead anywhere interesting. If your goal was to lead the viewer to the trees and their reflection, then the trees are definitely underexposed in this one.

Maybe slightly overexposed - I can't tell if you lost any detail in the tower (your subject) here.

If you're having trouble getting the JPGs to look exactly the way you want but still don't want to edit through traditional software, you could try X Raw Studio and slightly tweak your shadow/highlight values before exporting.

Dropped my 16mm 1.4 from a table on a hardwood floor and had to send it in for repair. Autofocus motor broke, the charge 130 for replacement.
And since focus is by-wire, it is practically useless unless you consider "fixed focus point" a creativity challange

It does seem that way. I went out on a shoot with the X-S10 and 18-55, pretty much all the shots I took during daytime light on "stabilized" mode were a little blurrier. But I can tell my stabilization is clearly working because the very low shutter speed shots are OK. So it seems like yes, you'll be messing around with that switch quite a bit, I guess that's why it's there. I wish they mentioned it in the camera manual and promo however... On the plus side, since most Fuji primes are unstabilized, with an ibis body you can have some stabilization if you need it. And if you're ever doing handheld video, lens stabilization and ibis together are pretty strong.

Just did a quick test, looks like you cannot change the aperture at all in S mode.

on the 18-55 at least (only lens I have) there's a switch on the lens that lets you choose between changing the aperture on the lens or body. It would appear that you can't have it set to change aperture on both body and lens at the same.

Thanks for checking, anon. What AF mode are you on, single or continuous? I have a feeling that in IBIS mode SHOOT ONLY while in AF mode CONTINUOUS this won't happen, but I haven't been able to go out and test it yet

Think about it this way, you'll have some money left over or two additional lenses. An X-S10 with one of the top primes will produce better images than an XT4 with mediocre lens. However, the XT4 is the better body and if you're planning on keeping your camera for a long time it is a better long-term investment.

Besides I feel a lot of people use a X100V as their secondary camera while they still have a ILC next to it for special occasions. it used to be the case that Lightroom and Adobe software couldn't "handle" fuji's raw files properly and as a result generated worms/artifacting on the images which otherwise wouldnt be there.
I think its all good now, but most people use Capture One which i just pirated lol

Pretty much any film slr lens will work on a mirrorless camera. Just look up the lens mount to camera maon adapter on ebay. Nikon f to fuji x in your case, also there is a new fuji thread.
