The Helios 44 has become my favourite lens. Just walked around with it today and I've really fallen in love with the way it renders bokeh. It acts like a 87mm after the crop factor on my XT2 (the 85mm F1.8D is my go-to lens on my Nikon) so using it has been pretty easy. Really looking forward to using it in my portrait and band work

I don't know... everything in the shot is soft and fuzzy, even the subject. If that's the plan, ok I guess. Me, I'd prefer the background bokeh along with the subject being sharp and in focus.

i dont have a helios but i do have a pentacon 50mm f1.8 which also makes swirly bokeh
it is extremely soft at f1.8 its kind of useless

I adore the 44 and have a 3 of them, what I really want to get my hands on is a Helios 40 85mm F1.5 as the bokeh swirls are even stronger on it.

Bought them like that, it's not hard to polish them though with a rotary tool like a Dremel and the polishing bits you'll need some compound. It's like buffing the paint on a car, sort of.

That camera also has a full CLA done by me and it's a shooter it doesn't just sit on a shelf. One of the best Zenit cams before they turned to shit from Breznev's 5 year plans

One more thing, find an export model if you're into Soviet stuff. They were built to different tolerances and generally regarded as better built, you will see the Mir on the left has English letters those are usually export models.

Here's my MMZ Zebra Helios 44-2, it's the first Helios I bought for a surprisingly low price, also have a KMZ 44M and Valdai 44-2 but that ones build quality is significantly lower as is known of Valdai lenses.

My favourite aspect of shooting on film is the part that makes me slow down, so a fully manual set of prime lenses goes really well with this experience, and this particular one is my favourite

Been basically 5 months since I ordered the lens, it's been sitting in Canada for 2+ months with nothing. Pretty sure it's being held hostage by Canada Post as no imports are being accepted from Russia anymore.

This is mine that I use with an A7. I love it, but does anyone else have the problem with the whole outer build of the lens kind of shaking and wobbling around the inside (the part with the actual screw mount).

I have to kind of brace the whole thing against my camera to stop it from doing weird tilt shift things and ruining my focus, but I can’t be too mad because it was like $60. I’ve already opened it up and tried to find a fix but wasn’t able to do anything.
