for the first time, i have an actual camera and not a digishit, aside from shooting more, what can i do to get better? i know the exposure triangle and basic composition rules, is there some theory i should read or other photographs to study? what can i do?

Anon, don't listen to the retarded gearfags. You should really not come here for gear advices because everyone is fixated on brands and buying things but not about photography. The Ricoh GR II an amazing camera, and the quality of the picture is enough for all purposes (except of course large prints). But most of all, being able to have a high quality camera with flash everywhere in your pocket will enable you to take photos much more easily, which really made me shoot and think about photography more often. This camera is one of my favorites because it made me progress. I will post some photos I took with the Ricoh GR II.

To be honest I really don't like your edit. I made it smooth because I liked the texture of the snow, it looked like sand. Boosting clarity really made the snow appear dirty and strangely sharp, and there is some sort of halo around the trees that is characteristic of too much contrast. But thank you for trying, it's always cool to see what other would have done.

I'm the guy who posted photos. Reading this book really helped me understanding the basics of the theory, I recommend it. Otherwise it's mostly about photographic culture in my opinion. The more photographers (and painters/artists...) you know the more ideas you have about how to express yourself.

You bought a camera with a fixed 28mm lens. You have constrained yourself to taking certain kinds of photos. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you need to disabuse yourself of the idea that you have the capacity to do every kind of photography, as commonly understood. Can you take portraits and photos of birds with a 28mm? Sure. You can. Will they follow the conventions that have been gradually decided upon over the past 200 years? No. You have a very specific camera that was made for a very specific purpose.

i am aware that I bought a camera with a fixed 28mm lens. I am not interested in shooting portraits or birds or sports or whatever. All I did was shoot pictures of my friends and the happenings on the street. This camera was the natural step up from my gx100 so I bought it. If I ever needed to shoot portraits or whatever I could borrow my dads 7D.

Keyword: Spontaneity. This usually means: people having fun or doing something interesting. Snapshits are not snapshots. I don't know if it's a general rule for street photography, but it seems to be a decent enough rule if you're shooting with a fucking 28mm lens and don't have any other option besides getting into people's faces. Picrel is another streetfren who only shoots with a 300mm. Easier to be non-escalatory when you're 30 yards away.

We need to define terms: Does "digishit" mean simply a small fixed-length camera? One that doesn't shoot RAW? Cost? Age? Petapickles? There are some metrics by which the GR platform is digishit, and some by which it is not. It seems to be a machine purpose-built for taking street photography in tight spaces, with crowds.
