What you do with said skills is another story, if you have steady hands you can bracket somewhat still scenes and have a wide dynamic range for your already good composed photo, unless you are a snapper and depend purely on luck to have a portfolio.
With a tripod there's almost no excuse, i don't get fags who don't want to use one for portraits, i get going around making things dynamic but sooner or later you need a frontal one that can be done roughly in the same time if you placed the camera on a quick plate.
