I'm going to a low light area tomorrow with my x-t2 and 16mm f1.4, looking to do my first real astrophotography since getting the lens. What settings should I be using in order to exposure stack? Do I even need to exposure stack, or can I capture the milky way clearly with a single exposure? It'll be one day off of a new moon, should be good conditions for it.

You just likely want to calculate maximum exposure time where stars don't visibly move, take picture of the sky, and stack it with a picture exposed for everything else.
But, I have no idea what your goal is.

From my understanding you can take multiple exposures of the sky and then use specific software (eg. deep sky stacker) to stack them, which nets you a clearer more pronounced image of the milky way with lower noise. I think you shoot under exposed images at very low ISO, then stacking them brings up the contrast of the interesting parts - looking for guidance here though since I clearly don't know the fine details.

None of these were stacked, but they also only really show a hint of the milky way. These are all super old (4-5 years), but on a X-T2 with similar lenses.
I would recommended the app PhotoPills, it was super helpful for me when I did a lot of night stuff. Can give you path of the moon, has calculators for exposure, etc.

It's probably too late but yeah you should have no trouble getting the milkyway with that equipment. Even single subs should be able to reveal the brighter parts of the band, but stacking will always improve image quality by bringing out the dimmer areas really close to the noise floor.

Basically you'll want to expose so that you target saturates the sensor as much as it can without overexposing or clipping, but you also want your exposure to be short enough so that star trailing does not occur (probably 10 seconds or so).
