Both are needed.

Mechanical handles multi frequency LED sources better.
Electronic is silent and some sports events ban mechanical.

I didn't read anywhere they banned electronic shutter, where have you read this?

I'm not photographing those sports, but they just advise us to not relay only on the electronic shutter. Cameras with stacked sensor doesn't seem to have an issue with this tho, those cameras are all good. The consensus is: if you're going to shoot with ES, better have a R3/Z9/a1
