I guess I should have explained that by "B-movie" I meant one where the actors aren't very good at portraying emotions, and the theme is heavy-handed because the director thought their audience wouldn't get it. What I'm saying is that, yes, B-movies can be more artistically accomplished than A-movies and most likely more than blockbusters, but that doesn't mean they *necessarily* are.
Either way, we're arguing semantics here. My point was that I think Crewdson is overrated. His work, to me, relies on the nostalgic Americana, the movie-like feeling (more nostalgic Americana), and people frothing over how he stages the entire thing, but staging the entire thing doesn't make it good if the staging is just flat and doesn't communicate anything beyond being a facsimile of a movie
