Overpriced, I'm not sure - it can be had around €1000 here at times, and it's around 800-900 on the trusted second-hand market.
The problem is just that the budget options have clearly worse IQ (or, in Tamron's case, are just as heavy and bulky). The 50-140's AF is still very good (two linear motors) and the color rendering is excellent. If you want comparable IQ, the alternative is to carry at least two primes (50mm f/2 + 80 or 90 mm), which are less flexible. Or you want a light, affordable zoom with moderate IQ, which is the 55-200. But all things compared, if you've got a Fuji and want to lug around a zoom for very good landscape photos, than this is the one option.
