>>4077657>realistically you should be making a mil/yr before you spend 10k on a camera unless you're a pro booking shoots every weeklol, everyone I know in person that has a Leica makes under $100k/yr.
>spend 10% of your yearly take home on a body + lensMost also don't buy a new body every year, and most also buy used / older. In terms of total camera gear value ($), I know way more people that own more in total (multiple FF bodies + 5-10 lenses) than the Leica owners I know. You also should consider the potential resale down the road, that $15k could easily still be $10k after 5 years, so you're paying $1k/year at that point.
I know far more people that spend +$10k on other hobbies like biking, snow sports, water sports, MtG, fashion (clothes and jewelry), etc. Cars especially too, that's the difference between a $30k car and a $45k one, and yet that difference doesn't seem quite as crazy, but it's still $15k. I drive a ~20 year old car worth about $3k, when most of my friends drive around in cars 10x as expensive. Just depends what you value.
It seems crazy for a camera, because other cameras are so much cheaper. On it's own though, it's really not that crazy of an expense, especially, like you mention, if you use it for work. They are a bad fit for 99% of people though. They're really only worth it for a tiny minority with very specific shooting preferences.
