It was unironically started by some salty faggot old photojournalist way back in the early 00's, right when digital was starting to take off.

Because photographers are naturally insecure and gossipy little ponces, they then adopted the phrase as some gay-ass purity test. Anyone who uses the word "chimping" to refer to photography is a brainlet of the lowest order and should be ignored in their entirety.

The main reason for not chimping was because at the dawn of digital photography batteries were crap and it drained valuable power. These days if you feel the need to review then you should.

I grew up in the film era and suffered through the crap battery period so I don't chimp all that much but I do in certain circumstances.

lol no, what the fuck is this revisionist history. bodies were coming with 2000mah batteries since like 2001, and if you drained the battery, you would just swap it with another one.

It was a pejorative because it was presumed that the photographer who spent the whole time looking at the back of their camera at the previous shot would miss the rest of the action and thus the next shot.

I bought my first DSLR in 2002, the battery was 1700mAh and even with two of them in their life was shit
