You're right, but it's not good that you can sniff that out. The fireworks picture probably sends the point home, if nothing else. I feel like I harp too much on her work at times, and it's something I've got to get over to progress further as a photographer

I have to disagree with this notion. I feel like there’s nothing wrong with wearing your influences on your sleeve so long as you’re able to gradually distill all of your influences into a style of your own. Never be afraid to seek out influences both within and outside of photography.

That's fair. For me, if my work can only ever be described as being like someone else's, then that means it's only ever derivative. I'm happy that you compare my work to Rinko Kawauchi's since you say you're a fan of hers, but it just means for me I need to do more work to now differentiate myself. She'll obviously never not be an inspiration of mine since I've gone this far looking up to her work the whole way, but I think I can do more to make my own work more personal

fair comparison. it seems interesting to contrast poetry from hundreds of years ago compared to modern poetry.
im sure if i saw that image but it was supposedly taken in like 1870s (b/w of course) i'd be like "WOW!!" but because it's modern i'm like "ehhh"

i think your pics are sort of like jamming out on a musical instrument. probably fun to do and doesn't sound terrible. (but without trying to sound like a complete dick) not worth showcasing beyond anything like this moment on /p/ and laughable if presented as if it's serious

i think it'd be cool if you took some of your best pictures here and tried to work on them further.
maybe something like not compromising for ISO, or using a tripod if you're not for these low light images
or if the image is cropped, re-doing it so it uses more of the sensor
it just has a low quality look sometimes. reminds me of when i did experiments with a pinhole camera
i mean maybe its just that you're unironically uploading at 1000x1000 but if we're going to see a picture that's a colour study and focusing on the aesthetic of that it should be high fidelity and interesting to look at
like look at the rinko pic i uploaded. it's significantly sharper than anything you've posted here?

We're at a disagreement here, because I'm intentionally trying to soften my image quality. A tripod would be nice, sure, but a low-quality/degraded look is what I want and I've taken steps to ensure that. I think even my subject choices reflect that.

You keep improving, it's great anon. Contratsts and lights are better than last thread, not really sure how but your style is more complete now. However it is true that it very much looks like an imitation of Rinko Kawauchi's work. This is not a bad thing because you can use the skills you have to find your own style but as is it does not look personal enough.

love this one. i have a series of squarecrops as well that are usually either very cropped in so that its more about the texture of the subject than anything else or what i would call anti-panoramas. stuff a lot of ppl would shoot very wide but i kinda like the intimacy of something very cropped in.

It actually depends on the viewing device. Small resolution jpegs on high res phone screens, for example, will look worse than png of the same resolution. TV screens are guilty of this as well. They see low res jpeg and loves to throw scaling algorithms over it. With png they must at least obey baked in colour space. This goes for 8bit png, 24bit tends to be overkill in most cases, but can be used as means of getting rid of banding.
