basically you want to look "in front" of the screen, rather than at the screen
if you don't know how to control your eyes to adjust where they're looking on demand, try putting your finger in front if your face, looking at your finger, then moving your finger to and from the screen until you have 3 of the picture you're looking at (instead of 2), then shift your focus from the finger to the centre picture, if you can focus on the centre picture, it will be in stereo, because each eye will be looking at different pictures (left eye on the right picture, right eye on the left picture, crossed)
