>>4110787Usually around 2 AM, I put on the album Morrison Hotel by The Doors, and rig up my a6000/90mm 2.8 to the back of a chair using a flexible mini tripod. The camera is pointing straight down, towards a clear glass dish filled with water/cooking oil. "Peace Frog" is praised among the album's best tunes; Louder Sound ranked the song among "The Top 20 Greatest Doors Songs", and I think I agree.
I’ve cut a circular hole just smaller than the diameter of the dish into the top of a cardboard box, and place the dish in the hole. The brim of the dish prevents it from sipping through. Into the side of the box, at the bottom, I’ve cut a slot. It’s through this slot that I slide an iPad under the dish. On YouTube there’s hours long videos of swirling/shifting colors, this illuminates the dish from below. Doing this in the dark intensifies the brightness.
Did you know Alice Cooper claimed that he was the inspiration for the line "Woke up this morning and I got myself a beer"? He said that on his podcast.
The oil droplets move around pretty quickly in the dish, so a higher shutter speed is helpful in getting clear shots. I usually cover the dish if I’m changing batteries or YouTube videos, this prevents dust from landing in the water.Focus the lens, and take a swig of rum from the bottle, and take some pictures.
Afterwards, upload them to photoshop/Lightroom or whatever and correct for exposure levels/contrast
