Are lowlight pictures just cheating? Feels like you can photograph just about anything in lowlight and make it look at the very least not shit. I do take a lot of them, yes.

Yes, in the same way using composition instead of just pointing your camera on full auto in the general direction of your subject is cheating.

No because it’s actually pretty difficult to exposure a dark photo just right so that it doesn’t look like complete shit.
99% of the time the dark photos I see on Instagram are either way too dark with the highlights of dogshit neon signs brought down to 0 or the blacks/shadows are just blue/navy because of those godawful presets.
If that’s your photo then well done because it’s actually well executed.

the glow on the left is light pollution from a warehouse on a nearby rural highway, the weird colours to the right of the house are traffic lights changing during the long exposure.
