>>4123811It's really a larger story about the decline of 4chan. A decade ago, it was a hip website for leftist gay nerds. It was at the forefront of a new form of comedy, insightful philosophy, unique content.
Then came the frogposters and then wojak posters, and then the /pol/faggot tourists, and this place totally went to shit. /p/ suffered from a brain drain as anyone who was worth a shit left years ago.
Internally, we went from having dozens of tripfags all producing content to 2 or 3 tripfags producing content centered around their abrasive personalities. There was also a rise of "I'll gladly accept any critique so long as I agree with it", which is very toxic.
The /RPT/ also straight-up killed the board, as we went from having a majority of photography threads to one single thread that is instantly outnumbered by gear threads and shitposts. In the olden days, a photographer would just make their own fucking thread, and a dozen photographers meant a dozen photo threads. And I don't mean "BIRD GENERAL" or "ABSTRACT PHOTO GENERAL", I meant they would create a thread as a showcase for their own recent work. It lead to healthy discussion, and at any given point you could click on the front page and see the work of five or six different photographers neatly organized by person, rather than subject.
We used to have challenge threads, print trading threads, tier lists, activity threads. Hell, we used to have a fucking traveling camera where you would shoot a roll of film with what was usually a shitty camera, post the pics and send the camera to the next person on the list. It was 100% a different place than it is now.
The board is far too fucked and too far gone to every fix it at this point, and it remains a hollow, empty shell of what it once was.
