Bought this as my first ever camera last week and it’s sat in the box ever since, how do I into photography?

Alright, here's a comprehensive guide:
1. familiarize yourself with the operation of your camera
2. go out with your camera in-hand
3. photos
4. review your photos to see what you did well and what you could improve
5. repeat

When you get good results research a quality affordable digital and remember the megapickel war is for people making prints, and every digital camera is a fat boat anchor with massive lenses compared to film except for shit with worse quality than your phone.

Film is awesome but it makes the learning curve steeper. He should get a cheap DSLR instead and learn to use the meter. One can get a D5100 with kit lens for like $200 and the image quality is nothing to sneer at. A DSLR removes the all-time live view crutch but provides quickly reviewable results. At first chiping helps the learner, but he must chimp less and less as his technical skills improve.

Look up some videos on settings to change (make sure you understand the reason why so you can decide for yourself) then just try and go out and take pictures of things you think would be cool pictures.

Also as a side note, it’s okay if you just want to start by using automatic mode. It’ll help you learn what things make good pictures.

lol might as well use a phone if you're going to be on all-time live view. Fuji cameras are all about the vintage larp so the ergonomics and general user experience suffer as a result. They get in the way of photography.

fuji x100, x-e, and x-t cameras are about not being able to afford a leica, and japan not being able to design a leica without the committee injecting some random space filling bullshit. fuji x-h cameras are about trying to appeal to people used to more standard digital cameras.

Closest one to what you just said is a $28 as-is one from Japan with $31 shipping on top.
This is the description by the seller:

One apparently good one sold a few days ago for $62 with shipping, body only. You can get a F100 for about that much or an F80 with lens. No reason to get a dinosaur.

You can just glue yarn into the channels and a strip of cloth in the hinge area. In winter the light isn't strong enough for light leaks anyways.

Or, you can be smart, and sell it to a hipster for $115 profit. Hipsters like it because it's good. One of the few times japan designed a camera that was ergonomic and stylish.
