Most forums involving cameras are all about the equipment and feel threatened when you do a simple dissausation from it. I go all around these cameras boards all over the internet and I rarely find any that is not inflates with overly defensive gear-heads. People fighting over the Xbox or Playstation are more peaceful than the fight over camera equipment.

to be fair, forums are about discussion, and photography as "art" is either too subjective to discuss OR most people aren't intelligent enough to discuss it outside of "I like photo" or "wow, nice" so it's only natural that they revert to the topics of discussion that they can hold which is typically gear, any forum reglardless of themes goes this way

I suppose whether photo is art or just a photo is up to the circumstances and intentions of the person taking the photo.

If you have formal education on the matter and create the photo with the intention of it being art, it's art.
With accumulated experience a hobbyist can say there is some art of the craft involved in photography.
An artsy photo, like the pic rel I took, is not art. It's experimenting with gear and documenting stuff around you. That's fun enough.

Why are they different from you? Just because they are rich and famous, doesn't mean they are trash at photography. Jusst because photography is the one and only hobby of yours, while they have other things going for them in their lives, doesn't mean you're better than them.

In fact, I'd argue they are better at it than you, since they already proved their work ethic and talent for artistic or repetitive tasks.
