Is wedding photography really as bad as I imagine it is? I really want to escape my office job and try getting into photography as a profession but I'm afraid I'm gonna hate dealing with brides and drunk guests and all that crap. Is anyone here doing it?

I wish I could live off of my photography, but I'd rather keep my quiet, dead end job and escape it through photography, than go and work weddings, which would arguably be more soul sucking for me and would probably take all the pleasure out of photography.
If I could just shoot what I enjoy, sell enough to make minimum wage, then I'd do that in heartbeat. But weddings is a big no-no.

What's the deal with brides insisting on looking like whores in all the photos? There's even "bridal boudoir" wedding photography packages where they make soft core porn.

It seems to me like they are directly contradicting the entire institution that they are entering into.

That’s because a man views it as a lifelong bond. They have no issues falling for some chick bagging groceries if she shows him any interest.

A woman views it as a transaction. There’s a reason why women have a list of things they want and they always include at least 6ft tall and to make 100k+/yr. As for OP: I've only taken photos at one wedding, and I can say that doing it professionally isn't for me. It seems like one of those things you'd have to like already or you'd burn out quickly.

It's very distinctly its own genre and almost its own craft. Unlike other sorts of run and gun photography like documentary/journalist work, or sports, wedding photography has the added pressure of needing to be 'perfect' while taking photos of imperfect things.

if you're good at it, there's solid money. have a buddy who books out 6 to 12 months in advance and makes over six figures doing weddings for yuppie couples.
